Default Can't get Limewire 5 to open

I had been using version 4.? and proceeded to dl 5. I am running MAC OS 10.5.6. Limewire 5 won't open and it tells me I need a new version of Java or something :

"this application require a 1.6+ version of Java." is the message I get...but when I searched for that I found nothing. Also, my old version of Limewire seems to be gone now.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jared

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...0-5-later.html unfortunately LW 5 only runs on the newer intel computers that are capable of running 64-bit java. Earlier macs are only 32 bit.

I think the earlier intel machines were not 64-bit capable. Just to check, go to Apple menu top left of menu bar, choose Software update ... and see if any Java updates. Then if installations or not, go to Utilities folder & open up Java preferences; Setting up Java for Leopard (the 2nd image). If you see no Java 1.6 (6) listed in your Java preferences, then your computer is not 64-bit java compatible & that's why you cannot install LW. I hope that's not the case, but let's see.

If Java 6 (1.6) is listed, then move it up the list & try again with installing.

Frankly, there's several functions missing from LW 5 that were in LW 4. Many people have complained as it's not easy to navigate as before. It looks quite different.

Firstly you need a 64-bit intel mac. Not sure if your imac is, but should be. Secondly you need OSX 10.5, if you wish to use LW 5. Otherwise, you will need to downgrade to LW 4.18. To do that, remove the install limewire.pkg file found in the Receipts folder found at OSX -> Library -> Receipts. Sample: Receipts folder sample image

no, all files that were 100% downloaded will still be on your computer. Perhaps in a different location. Just need to check your computer via search. Else perhaps they do not show up in library because they are not being shared.

I had the same problem opening Limewire 5 with my iMac with Intel core 2 duo, running 10.5.6. It was still using the default 32-bit Java, so I went to the MacintoshHD>Utilities>Java>Java Preferences. I saw that Java SE6 was in the list, but not at the top. It must have previously been downloaded during a software update, but was not the Java in use. I dragged Java SE6 to the top of the lists for both the applet versions and application versions.
I downloaded Limewire 5 again and it worked. What a relief.
