Exclamation Limewire freezes and won't shut down

Hello everyone,

I tried looking for an answer to my problem on other threads on this forum but I couldn't find any... So here it is:

After a lot of trouble and a big help from this website, I finally installed Limewire 5 on my MacBook, recently updated to OSX Leopard 10.5.

I am getting along fine with the new Limewire version, but the problem is, I am downloading something and after a while Limewire freezes. I don't see the colored-circle but I can't do anything, even forcing it to quit either with the usual "forcing to quit" neither with the Activity Monitor. The only thing I can do is shut down my computer and start again.......

It is getting quite boring! Plus I really don't want to go back to Limewire 4.18.

What can I do? Thank you for your time and answers.

No easy answers unfortunately. Two similar discussions: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...evel-high.html

It's my guess LW 5 for OSX is not working that well with apple's java. Apple prefer to work on their own Java rather than let the main java company create it for them. Unlike windows & linux. Whether to blame java or LW is disputable.

Thank you Lotr,

I already read everything on the subject and was hoping I had missed something!

I think all that's left to do is wait for an update... and hope it works!

Anyway thank you for your help.

I have been having the same exact problem. I've even tried changing the amount of downloads allowed to 1 and LimeWire still froze up after a while. And it refused to Force Quit so I had restart or shut down as well.

What would be a more stable earlier version than LimeWire 5.3.6?

iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
OSX 10.5.8
3 GB RAM

Difficult to say. Have you tried deleting your LW preferences to see if that helps: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX

Else I could point you to a different version of LW. Officially LW are not letting people downgrade 'if' their computers are capable of the most recent version.

There's other options such as turning performance options off. LW preferences -> Advanced -> SuperReallyAdvanced -> Performance.

Other than this, getting rid of incomplete files if you have too many. They can make some computers struggle. To do that with LW 5 you'd need to cancel each one (or hold shift key down from first to last & press cancel). Then check the incomplete folder to be sure none still exist inside.

Thanks LOTR, it works without a lot of hassle now.

I have a 2.57 Mb/s connection and LimeWire doesn't freeze when I limit the download preference to 4 dl's or less. If only you can limit the dl speed on each file because that's what seems to make the HD work harder as it reaches max connection speed and thus the freeze-ups.
