Installed LW for wrong version of MAC OS X

I accidentally installed LW on my MAC for the Leopard version 10.5 however I am running Tiger 10.4 When I installed the free basic version I never seen the version I was installing so after I tried running it I got the message that my JAVA update was incorrect and I needed to upgrade my operating system. So I went back to LW and noticed there was a link to older operating systems that I downloaded and tried to install when I got the message that I was trying to install a older version on top of a newer version and then got another message that nothing was there to install. There was no uninstall feature in the LW folder so I dragged the whole folder to the trash. Still no help. I read another tread that had the same problem but the advise was to go to library folder and search receipt folder. I have no receipt folder so that was no help.
Anyone have any clue as how to remove the old version of LW so I can try to reinstall the new/older version?
Thanks Bill

'Every' mac OSX user has a receipt folder. ;) It's in OSX -> Library ... not your personal account folder. :) All my OSX 10.5, 10.4 & 10.3 drives & computers all have a Receipts folder.

Thank you, I see where I made my mistake, I went into my library and not into my system folder..
I found the folder... THANK YOU>..
my head hurts...lol

On my Mac OS X 10.4.11 I accidentally downloaded the wrong Limewire upgrade and all is lost. I tried the receipt folder, but it says there is an error at the very end and won't finish downloading.....Please help:)

erm .. do you mean with Safari/Firefox or whichever browser you are using? Simply cancel the download. Download the old version: Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

Unlike windows users, the Mac OSX installer does not install over the internet. The files/data are all within the installer itself. It's an offline installer.

As for the Receipt folder, you would need to be logged into an admin account to remove that file called install limewire.pkg from the receipt folder. Example of where to find it here: Receipts folder sample image :)

installs but doesn't run

I installed limewire pro for my tiger. found every thing i needed and it installed no problem......Now what? every icon starts the install again,,,,,,What am i doing wrong?

You are clicking the installer. After you install, you should drag the installer disk image to the trash to unmount it. Then use the Go menu, select Applications, open the LW folder, open the LW program. After it's open, Control-click the LW icon in the Dock & choose Keep in Dock. :)

Ok so I have the icon in the dock but it won't open. never had problems before . my other mac is the same and its running LW....I would use it on that one but this is my music computer

Do you get an error message? Are you running an intel mac? Is Java 1.6 (Java SE6) listed near or at the top of the Java preferences? Setting up Java for Leopard (see 2nd image)

dmcloke May 23rd, 2009 10:55 AM

Running Java J2SE...no intel and no errors. I am running tiger 10.4

Java is correct but running on a different drive Would that be the problem?

Lord of the Rings May 23rd, 2009 11:28 AM

LW usually prefers to be installed in the applications folder. Whilst some of the older versions would run on a different drive, creating its own app folder. Perhaps reinstalling it into the applications folder to see if that makes any difference.

unfortunately my itunes folder is so big i don't have enough space.... guess it's time to get more memory

Lord of the Rings May 23rd, 2009 11:50 AM

hmm LW program does not take up that much space. On my old computer at one point moved my iTunes library to a different drive, then an external drive. On my new computer it has it's own special partition with 720 GB capacity so no quick chance of running out of space.

OSX needs space for virtual memory. All OSX programs use VM, so I try to avail all possible space on my system drive. That includes installing whatever programs I can on other drives & do not use the system drive/personal account folder for saving files to. This also keeps the system disk drive reading/writing only for the system. But that's just my approach. :) Used that approach for quite a few years now.

Thank you Lord!!!
Moved some folders around and got it to work. Thanks for your help!!!
Looks like i should find a sale on external drives.
I am going to play now I'll be back later to set up my profile.
Thanks again,
Donna

Great to hear. :)
External drives are not expensive nowadays. Several days ago I bought a 1 TB external drive for same price I bought my 250 GB & 300 GB drives a few years ago. They do great when connected via Firewire 800. FW 400 is fine, just half the speed. USB is slower than that.

I had this problem too (installed wrong version for update purposes, then unable to reinstall, even after dragging the downloads and Limewire from Applications to trash, and emptying the receipts folder).

But then I used finder to search 'limewire' and some other folders came up in library (preferences and one other thing - theme and props, too) and after deleting them, my download and install worked. I don't know if this helps anyone, but in case anyone comes across it. I know this thread REALLY helped me to troubleshoot, so.

Thanks! :)
