Incomplete downloads not loading & lost
 

I am using an Intel Mac running OSX.5.6.

I was using Limewire 4.18 and it produced a message saying that it could not find my incomplete downloads. They were still in the incomplete folder with all of their progress.

I updated to Limewire 5 (just basic) and it wiped out not only my 4.18 but would not recognize the progress of my incompletes.

I tried to reinstall a previous version (4.14) and it also did not recognize the progress made but all of the files were still in the incomplete folder at their various stages of downloading.

I had read in another post that a solution to this was deleting the .dat &.bak download files however when this was done (and I only moved them to the trash w/out deleting them) it wiped out all but a few of my incompletes - over 60gb of partially downloaded material was completely lost and Limewire will still not recognize the few files that are still there. Returning the trash files to their location did not correct the problem.

What the hell is going on????????????? I have lost a file or two before but never everything!

Once the incomplete files start downloading, they will resume at previous download %, but until then will show zero %. This was true for LW 4. Not sure about LW 5. Deleting the download.dat & bak files? Who suggested you do that? I'd like to see a quote. They are the files that maintain your download preferences & download history.

In LW 4 all you'd need to do is go to Library window, select incomplete folder, select all files holding down SHIFT key, press Resume button. This would force all incomplete files back into Download window.

LW 5 does not have a resume option. And canceling files in LW 5's download window will delete the incomplete files.

because I am not liking Limewire 5 AT ALL! Thanks for the words but I guess it doesn't do me much good now- all the partials are gone except for about 5. Know any way to get the others back?

I don't remember which post I read but it said something like LW would recreate a file from what it found in the folder. I guess that wasn't true at all. Or I misread it.

OK - so I reinstall LW5 and all my downloads show up again but they are missing from the incomplete folder (which doesn't show up in my library at all).

Also, is this version a serious RAM hog because every other program I try to run concurrently is buggy and deathly sluggish when LW5 is running.

This really sucks. Where can I get my 4.18 back?

incomplete files do not necessarily show in Library for LW 5. They should definitely show in the Downloads window however. ;) In LW 5 there is no incomplete folder per se in library.

and I'm still having trouble - the "lost" download names have reappeared but the actual partial files that were in the incomplete folder are totally gone and my hard drive shows 60gb opened up. Where those files went I don't know because they didn't go to the trash and I didn't delete them. I didn't delete the .dat & .bak files only moved them to the trash. I have found another set of these files in my downloads folder but have no idea how they got there and I'm afraid to touch for fear of losing the 4-5 partial downloads that didn't disappear.

Also, I am getting nowhere near the results I was getting with previous versions. All of my video searches show nothing but obvious junk/virus files for some CBS pilot and something called Women's World. I can't even get the junk results I used to get. Why won't the mostly decent search results I got in 4.18 show up in LW5?

Perhaps those particular ones finished downloading. Incomplete files start with a prefix T-xxx - filename. If the files do not have that then they are completed. :)

Again, I suggest you downgrade to LW 4 for 3-6 months until LW 5 picks up its act. ;)

Bogus search results
 

Beginning yesterday, I also started receiving A LOT of both "CBS..." and "Womans World EP..." results with nearly every search. I have not upgraded Limewire for months, if not years - still running 4.12.3 Pro.

What's happened?!

A good chance you were connected directly to a spammer ultrapeer.

These might help: 1. (a) Problems with the search, __ (b) Hostiles List, /OR SICK OF SPAM IP's stealing my bandwidth to upload junk files!!

2. How to find music

I do not have any Hosts specified and never have. I have disconnected and reconnected a half dozen times over the last 24hours and a search produces the same results. There are posts about this same problem in other forums (i.e. frost wire community). Thinking it's not the Hosts but I tried your suggestions and still receive same garbage results.
