downlodus interruptus & gnutella.net

Hi, I'm Paul aka Argonauta, owner of, for the record, a MacBookPro, MacOs X.5.6 Intel blah blah. New here, hi everyone. I've been having a week of ongoing downloadus interruptus ("no Internet connection", LW 5 crashing...) after several weeks of successful online intercourse. And I just want the latest episode of my favourite series! Baffled, I came here seeking for help and apparently I got it. Had to remove the file gnutella.net, which I have, and it seems everything is working fine now (thanks Lord of the Rings). Yet, no new gnutella.net file has been automatically created when I reopened LimeWire. Should I be concerned?
Second thing, LW is painstakingly slow? (I've broadband connection, no firewalls that I know rate is anything up to 40kb) Is it also a gnutella.net related issue?
Thank you for any answers. Please remember I'm not a tecchie, may I spell it so. Hope I got the right forum. Regards everyone.

Ps.: more info, it's a home computer and I've found out that I'm behind a firewall according to Advanced Tools. Had no idea, must be the ISPs (Vodafone Spain). How does one disconnect that? What else? Yeap, plenty of RAM, Hard Disk, my "Your Test Worked" worked too. Thanks for your patience!

Ps2: and something curious. Trying to download a video file (699mb). Slooooow, but it got to 60mb downloaded and then it keeps going back to 59, up to 60, down to 59 again in secula seculorum. What's up doc? And thanks again!

LW 5 is slow loading incomplete & shared files. LW 5 does not like having many of each. Alternative would be to downgrade to LW 4; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...0-5-later.html mentions how, 'if' you chose that option.

Check your firewall: OSX Firewall settings for Tiger/Leopard

The file downloading problem. This seems to be a common issue with LW 5 compared to LW 4. It suggests LW has detected a corruption & is attempting to re-download the missing or corrupted parts but having difficulty doing so. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...wards-why.html notes were for LW 4. Unfortunately if you cancel a download in LW 5, it will also delete the incomplete file. LW 4 did not do that. But go to the incomplete file, see if it plays from start to finish. If yes, remove it from the incomplete folder first, then cancel it from download window. To get to the incomplete folder in LW 5: Select the file in the download window, choose View file info, then in the information window, click on the Locate on Disk link. That will take you to the incomplete folder, highlighting the incomplete file. Then open it & play to see if it is ok.

Example is for windows, but same thing applies:

If the incomplete file does not play ok. Then choices are to continue downloading, or to look for an alternative.

Thank you Lord! I see there is plenty of help-yourself files available here —it will take some time to go through it all. For the time being, I did what was suggested on one page, which was to trash all Limewire files and app and download a fresh app. Hey, it worked, and now LW is performing as it used to a week ago. Again, thanks a lot. Cheers

ps: oops, sorry.
