LW 4.12.6 Can't Connect... (OS X 10.3.9)

hi a newbie here, so pls go easy on me... so i'm running on a rather old iMac OS X 10.3.9 and I have a DSL connection via AT&T thru the wireless modem they supplied (2WIRE). I'm able to successfully connect to the internet, browse, etc. However, I only have the dreaded one bar in my LW connection icon. I've configured the router associated with this specific computer to allow for Gnutella. I've also have tried every variation of LW preferences to Firewall Config Options (uPnP, Manual Listening Port, Do Nothing)... but stilll not able to connect. Also have tried deleting the library of preferences to "start all over" per one of the other threads in addition to basically all the suggestions in the sticky thread. anyone with any ideas? sorry if redunant. but i figured someone has encountered this and has a solution. thanks in advance.

Hi blah_2u,

I'm not sure which sticky thread you saw, but try the other fixes in this thread: If LW 4 Will Not Connect

That info's mainly aimed at Windows users, so you'll see 'tools > options' referred to, to get to LW's options. Use Command (apple key) & comma, (-,) for the Mac;)

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread with your system details: System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

I'm not a Mac user but if you're still stuck, LOTR will probably be around later:o

Amongst those tips Birdy gave you, I will definitely recommend changing the gnutella.net file. The one for LW 4.12 is probably out of date.

Birdy/LOTR, thank you sooooooooo much... got it going. i checked my other pc computer and no special firewall edits were made to the modem/router nor the apps on the windows xp box. after turning off the firewall exception for this OS X machine, i tried to again, but this time when it booted up, i just clicked off on the "don't show the tips" msg, and low and behold.... many thanks to you both. may computing karma always be on your side!

btw I hope this does not upset your karma but .. click this link; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...downloads.html read at least ;) :) It should give you the best of 'both' worlds.

lotr, thanks again. however, i don't know if it is applicable to my machine (actually my wife's). given that the operating sys is outdated (OS X 10.3.9) this is the most current version of LW (4.12) that we can use (i think).

I just double-checked on my old G4, yes you are correct. LW 4.13 & above required OSX 10.4+.

You sound like you are using a network at home? If yes, you need to ensure LW is not using the same connection or listening port as any other LW on your network. Can you post your system details as Birdy requested? :)

Hi LOTR,

Thanks again. I think my connection for LW has been resolved. Earlier I switched off the "tips" and ever since, i've had 5 bars in the connection, able to peer, search, etc. I think i'm all good.
