Default Limewire wont start

I tried installing LimeWire on my iMac (Intel) running Leopard 10.5.6 and when I try to run Limewire icon just bounces once on my dock and thats it program never opens...

I also installed on my intel Laptop (MacBook Pro) running Snow Leopard 10.6 and when I try to run it I get this error message

"You can't open the application LimeWire because the Classic environment is no longer supported"

So anyone know how to get LimeWire to work on either of my computers?

Either of two things, sounds like the first that your mac does not have Java 1.6; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...ck-lw-4-a.html. To check if your system has Java 1.6: Setting up Java for Leopard (see 2nd image)

If you were previously using LW 5 & the latest Java stopped it working, solution is to use the LW beta which is stable LimeWire 5.2.2 (Beta) - Lime Wire

Okay so I installed the Java update so 1.6 should be showing but it's not... It won't let me re-download it because it says I have no new updates when I go through Software Updates. I know this question doesn't pertain to Limewire but do you know how to fix that?

The new LW 5.1.4 fixes the Java issue. Try it. Download LimeWire 5.1.4 - Lime Wire Else the beta version.

Thanks for all your input to these forums Lord of the Rings. LW stopped working for me many months ago but it's taken this long to get round to seriously doing something about it. I've been following these forums for a week or so now and tried everything suggested, including: downgrading to both LW 4.16 and then LW 4.18, as well as LW 5.1.4 and the Beta version, repairing permissions, making sure java 1.6 is installed, etc, etc, ... Nothing works.

Currently I have LW 5.2.3 installed. The boot-up window shows for a split second and then the following bug report is produced - from which you can also see my operating system etc. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

LimeWire version 5.2.3
Java version 1.6.0_13 from Apple Inc.
Mac OS X v. 10.5.7 on x86_64

Try installing the Offline Standalone Java update Apple - Downloads - Application Updates - Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4 .. it may or may not make a difference. Repair permissions after installing.

Have you tried setting up a Test account to see if LW works there? Setting up a Test Account in OSX (click on link)

What kind of mac do you have .. which model?

Thanks Lord of the Rings - I went completed the java update, repaired permissions and tried LW from a test account ... alas no success.

I also tried deleting the LW preferences file but there is none - I guess because it not getting past the initial boot-up stages and so is not actually creating a preference file.

I'm using a new MacBook as follows

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

If you were not using a MacBook but a MacPro, I'd suggest you install a second OSX on a different drive to see if LW works there. I was in a scenario where LW 4.18 -> 5.1 refused to run on my main OSX but did on a different OSX installation. Then suddenly .. perhaps after a mac update LW 5 did start working on the main drive. 6 months between.

Hi,

I am experiencing exactly the same problem using a MACBOOK with 10.5.7 I upgraded JAVA; no fix. My previous version 4.xx.xx stopped working about 3 months ago after the last APPLE upgrade. It would open but not find any files that I was searching for. This week I upgraded and even unistalled and reinstalled the older 4.xx.xx version and had exactly the same results. Now I am back with the latest version and it will not launch. I get the split second flash and then nothing.

Bill
