Default Can't open downloaded mp3 files

I cannot open mp3's that I have downloaded. I've opened only two that turned out to be quicktime files but for everything else my mac says that I don't have the software that this file was originally created on. Help anybody...

somewhere in the process, the TYPE and CREATOR tags of the files are lost, especialy when you get a file that was located on a PC. What i have done, and i works beautifully, is i made a litte drag and drop utility that automaticly changes the tags of the downloaded mp3's, so the file is recognized a an i-tunes file. Altough you can set it to any application you want.

You too can make a uitility when using filetyper, a useful little app you can download at:

http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~dazuma/filetyper/

good luck!

Wink doh-of course it's easy; if ya know how

Delete the last 4 and add .mp3 or .sit or whatever to the title. Works for me.

ResEdit helps sometimes with those tough files or if they have an .mp3 extension and won't play try an app like iTuner.

There is a little freeware drag-and-drop utility at versiontracker called "iTunes Associator" that change type and creator to iTunes. SoundJam, if you can find it, can also usually deal with those rare files that iTunes can't handle even after creator and type have been corrected.
