What's with the "!-!" ? Anyone know what I'm talking about? !-! 19Kb What's with that? |
It is someone's spoof of a legitimate file.... I added the string !-! to my filter so I don't see any file that has that in it. It would be best to ignore. |
I downloaded one of those once, and it turned out to be a porn link. I also find that when I enter something perhaps a bit more obscure, I'll get three hits: one an .html, one a .jpg, one something else-- I'm not sure the exact extensions, but it's something like that. With those plus the !!! files, I'll get up to 17 hits, and not a single one of them the slightest bit of use. It's infuriating. What can I do? |
As I recall from previous threads on the subject, these search results are caused by altered clients that return the same (porn) files for ANY search. To counter these you can: 1. Block "!-!" as Bobomon suggested. - In Limewire go to Tools=>Options=>Filters=>Keywords - Type in the words to be filtered ("!-!", "Full downloader" or whatever) and click Add. - Search results with these words/characters will no longer appear 2. Block spammer IPs. - To see the IP in the search window, do a prolonged command-click in the title bar of the Limewire search window and click on Location in the popup menu that appears. - Go to Tools=>Options=>Filters=>Hosts - Type the IP address(es) that appears next to the spam result(s) and click Add. - Results from this host will no longer appear in your searches. |
