Lime wire for MAC -> Spyware or adware

I'm thinking about d/l the program, but have heard it has spyware enbedded in it? But I have also heard the AMC version is supported by adware.

What's the real deal?

There is no "spyware" in the Mac version, but only some .gif banner advertisements that load periodically into a window below your download tray. If you can't figure out how to make these disappear, you have no business owning a Macintosh ;) ! Hint: since there is no central Limewire server, those little gif-files must be located.....where?
