Well, there is another new beta version out today. 2.7.4

Don't bother as it now has installer problems.
After installing I would get a Java error, something about not finding the main script when trying to run the application.

Had to re-install 2.7.3 to get things working again.

Geez, don't these guys do preliminary testing before they release things?

Guess we'll have to wait and see if 2.7.5 works.

Lightbulb Partial Workaround for Set-up at launch problem

There is a workaround for the Set-up That Won't Die problem. It worked for a misbehaving LimeWire Pro v2.7.3 on my G4 Mac running OS 9.2.2, and if you're missing a limewire.props file in your Preferences folder it might work for you.

But you need to have your previous LimeWire version's "limewire.props" file still available. I got mine from my last systemwide backup; it came from LimeWire Pro v2.6.5. Put a copy of the old limewire.props file inside the new ".limewire" folder located in the System Preferences folder. Make sure the copy has the original filename "limewire.props". After that you should be good to go. You can even change your preferences now and have them stick. Apparently all you need is one good existing limewire.props file in the .limewire folder to get over the hump.

Anyway, I hope this workaround also works for you. Good Luck.

Wink Partial Workaround for Set-up at launch problem Part II

Oops. Forgot to add one necessary instruction in the last post. The LimeWire Pro v2.7.3 installer and the Set-up procedure that followed left an empty folder inside the ".limewire" system preferences folder named curiously enough "limewire.props". I trashed this empty FOLDER and REPLACED it with a copy of my previously existing preferences FILE "limewire.props" that I retrieved from a backed up system file. Sorry for any confusion...

I just tried the above work around to solve the setup wizard problem. It worked great! Thanks a lot.

Thumbs down Here we go again!

Well just downloaded and installed beta 2.7.5 a short time ago.
11-13-2002 @ 6PM EST.

Still the same old same old. Installer says no errors but when I try to run it ta da same old ****.

Unable to locate the application's 'main' class. The class 'com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Main' must be public and have a 'public static void main(String[])' method. (LAX)

O.S. = 9.1

Something tells me this don't get tested on older machines before release!

Maybe it's time to change to something else, this is getting boring.

Lightbulb simple fix...

Try this, until they come out with an official fix. It worked for me (g3 imac, OS 9.2)

1. Go to your system folder..preferences
2. Open the .limewire folder
3. trash the limewire.props folder (it's empty anyway)
4. create a new document and name it limewire.props

(to do this I duplicated the gnutella.net document and renamed the resulting copy limewire.props. But you can probably start with any old generic icon)

After launching Limewire again my new phony limewire.props file became 4k in size. The setup options appeared set to default choices. Now you can go to the Options menu and change them to what you want and they will "stick". Limewire quit going through setup each time.

Hope this works for you!
