Let me know how it's working with the memory increase. I'd say you have enough memory available. I'm also running 9.1.

I don't run other programs at the same time because of conflicts, but I know that others don't have any problem running other programs.

It's kind of trial and error sometimes.

Good luck.

Talking talkin ape

g4 733/graphite 1gig ram OS9.2.2

I only have 20mb assigned to LW (2.7.3pro), although in 'about this computer' (under the apple menu) it's (LW's) ram usage occasionally goes way up to around 150mb! LW must have it's own virtual memory thingy going on because with 1gb of ram in a mac (os9) virtual memory is greyed out on the memory control panel.

So maybe ppl with less ram should consider upping the virtual memory and of course make sure you have plenty of HD space

I regularly use itunes at the same time and occasionally explorer and Outlook exp with near to no problems.

I have generally found that a crash of sorts can happen not long after LW complains that a d/l is corrupted, or those ones that don't seem finish but have reached 100%. Both of these don't happen often enough to bug me though.

In my case, Outlook Express is the biggest culprit. It freezes up alot on its own. So, I never have it running with LW. But, I have nowhere near 1 gig in memory. Only 384 MB.

Glad to hear you have "near to no problems"

Default 2.7 Test

Hi Julie,

I spent part the weekend playing with 2.7.3. Running with nothing else open (a major deal on my computer -- I usually have a minimum of 8 going including Dreamweaver, Flash, PhotoShop, Illustrator and a couple of other RAM hogs), it still ran slow, intermittently connected/disconnected, freezing, etc. -- all while gobbling 100 megs of RAM. Force Quit is necessary 40% of the time. It fails to download many files, showing them as "100%" but "Downloading from 0 hosts" as opposed to "Complete". Some appear in the folder as Shared, others as Incomplete.

I did manage (by shutting down/rebooting several times) to download some usable files. Couldn't Chat because I have a router(?)

No offense, but Limewire still appears to need some work.

Cheers,
Chuck

Chuck,

You'll get no argument from me that LW needs work. I only try to share what works for me. LW does freeze alot. Force Quits necessary. Usually have to press the restart button as the mouse will not respond. It moves, but cannot click anywhere. But, as it is the only somewhat usable app for Macs, I stick with it.

Now, as for files sitting at 100% "Downloading from 0 Hosts" : That is LW hashing the file. Takes a few minutes to complete and then it will show up in your Save Folder.

I have no idea if there is a problem with Chatting and routers. That could be an Open Discussion question if you feel it important enough to ask. We don't get too many replies in the Mac forum. We kinda have to fend for ourselves!

Anyway, I try to give input when I can, but everyone pretty much needs to just do what works for them.

Good luck! And may someone come out with a good Mac p2p someday soon!
