Basic 2.7.9 gave me the same terminal error as before. I was religiously installing every version that came along, with no major problems until after 2.7.4 (?) and when I installed the version right after that... that's when things went haywire. I think the installer did more damage than just to the LW itself. I was unable to reinstall 2.7.4 (or any later releases) without getting the missing class dialog. I had to go back to 2.7.3 and even though it "works", I have to go through the install wizard everytime. I've tried every version I can find, including downloading from different sources and other dopey fixes that folks have suggested. I know someone posted a workaround for eliminating the reoccuring wizard, unfortunately I didn't back up the necessary file. I'm sure reinstalling my system folder would correct the damage, but I'm not doing that for a filesharing app.

I think releasing every buggy little version to VT is a mistake. I'm sure the idea is to maintain visibility, but this fiasco will drive away future users. I think Mozilla realeases nightly builds, but they only post tried and true updates to VT. Most users don't have the patience to troubleshoot/read these forums and probably just delete LW for good. I've been using LW forever and even though it's got tons of problems, I'll keep giving it chances until they get it right... then I'll pay for it. Well I guess I'm stuck with 2.7.3 and the wizard until I need to do major maintenance to my system.

Hi, I tried the installer from the posted site and was still having the same problem. As for the fix for the free version being posted today, did that already happen or is it going to happen? Because I downloaded that installer (from the limewire site) today to upgrade.

For right now I'm going back to 2.6, thanks to the person who posted the site to get previous versions!

It was supposedly posted today. And it was "tweaked" so that it could never happen again. But, from what I'm reading, it's still not working.

I'm beginning to think that Unreg (above) is right. Because, I had installed 2.7.8 yesterday and got the main class error. I uninstalled and then reinstalled my 2.7.3 no VM (since I already have MRJ) and today I got an internal bug notice regarding Java. It works, but the bug notice was new. I've had no other problems with 2.7.3. No set up wizard repeats or anything like that. I think all was fine until 2.7.4 +.

So, those having problems should use the link Minstrel posted and try 2.7.3.

Or try this link.

If you already have Java, download the "no VM" file. It's smaller.

Good luck to all!

[SIZE=3][COLOR=purple] I had to go all the way back to 2.7.3 and even though it "works", I have to go through the install wizard everytime.

I have had this problem myself, and simply forgot to mention it until someone else did. Is there a fix for it, and what do I have to do?

I have had this problem myself, and had forgotten about it while in this message board until I read this particular message. Is there a fix for the recurring installation wizard, or what?

Someone posted a fix in another thread (I forget...), I believe the person had a backup that included LW prefs that went along with an older version. They used the old prefs to drive away the wizard. It could of been a different component/file, but prefs sound right. Either way, if you don't have an old back up... you may be stuck until another version comes out. At least you haven't been stricken with the "missing class" pox.

Minstrel,

I never had that problem with 2.7.3. But, I think that was the case. You need to have an older version's "limewire.props" file.

Or try this.

Read the last post of the thread (by johngaltpa) and give it a try.
