Setting a default music playrer
 

In the past when I d/l music files they opened up in Quicktime.
Now they open up in iTunes.

Does anyone know how I can change it back to Quicktime as the default player.

I am running OS 9.2 with Limewire 2.7.3.

Sounds like iTunes has been set as the default player, and the only way to stop that is to set another player as default.

I'm not sure, cause I haven't tested it, but try opening QuickTime, then menu

Edit/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences

Then scroll to - Browser plug-in
and tick - Play movies automatically

This might have more chance of working if LimeWire is running, but I suspect it will only effect your nominated browser.

I haven't seen anything in LimeWire that lets you set a default player.

The other way is to re-set the creator code of the files as they are moved into the download folder, using Applescript. I've written a folder script that does exactly that, but it needs some cleaning up. You are welcome to it if you have problems.

I set up the prefs in QT with Limewire running in the background and it now
defaults to QT player.

Perhaps you could help me with my problem, too. My files used to download as quicktime files automatically, then they spontaeously started to download as a blank icon so that when you opened it it gave you a list of what you could choose to open it with (this is what I prefered, actually), and then they started to spontanously downlaod as real files. This is extremely annoying, and I have found no way to change this, or even change the format of those real files. They won't open in itunes (thus I can't burn them) and I need winamp for mac to put them into any kind of playlist, but I would much rather have them in my normal itunes playlist. Anyone have any suggestions?

The first thing I'd try is to open the files with FileBuddy, which is worth it's weight in gold.

The file type should show as .mp3, and set the file creator to 'hook'. Once you've done this, it will be added to FileBuddys pop-up choices.

If the file then plays via iTunes, then something is probably trying to automatically open the mp3's on download, and converting the creator to something iTunes does not recognize. For example, it won't reconize Media Player file as far as I know.

If they open ok after re-setting, try setting the iTunes prefs to 'play internet tunes' and 'play automatically' (or something like that).
