limewire keeps crashing my computer

Limewire keeps crashing my macintosh. Sometimes my arrow (that indicates where my mouse is positioned on my monitor screen), turns into 3 jagged lines. --the arrow turns into the jagged lines, and computer is frozen.

Other times the arrow remains, but computer is frozen.

Sometimes it happens during sharing, sometimes I barely get the application open, before a freeze.

I have OS 9.2, cable connection, Limewire Pro 4

SOOOOOOO Frustrating!

Please download the latest version of LimeWire from your PRO page or download the free version. You could be having this problem because you have an earlier version of LimeWire.

LimeWire does freeze alot. At least for me. And I have no idea why. I just reboot and start over.

Are you using Norton AntiVirus? When I used it while running LimeWire, I would get the weird-squiggly-cursor when it froze. You should disable Norton while using LimeWire. Then after you quit LimeWire, re-run it to scan any downloads.

Just a thought.

Good luck.

Julie, LimeWire seems to be working on my Mac just fine. I also have Norton AntiVirus and it does not crash or freeze for me. I don't know what to say? I saw that karen had LimeWire Pro 4 and it might be a good idea for her to upgrade. just an idea.

LimeDude,

I didn't acknowledge the "LimeWire Pro 4" because: what version is that? They're only at version 2.x so I figured there was some confusion there.

As for the suggestion about Norton, it was a problem for me. With the cursor she mentioned. The only time I ever saw it was when I was running it. In fact, I tried to do a disk scan once (LimeWire wasn't running) and it froze with the same squiggly cursor. So, I offer the suggestion about Norton whenever someone mentions it.

I definitely could be wrong. Just trying something. ;)

Our configurations must be different as I cannot run Norton at the same time as LimeWire. I think when it comes to LimeWire, you're one of the lucky ones! :D :D I cannot run it for a long period. If I run it and walk away, it will (not might) it will be frozen and require a reboot. And I will have no other apps running at the same time. But, as it is my only choice, I deal with it.

So, anyway, maybe upgrading will fix her problem. I say, try anything. LimeWire seems to be a "try and try again" program.

I never heard of LimeWire Pro 4 so I just told her to get the latest version.

I don't get the squiggly cursor so I don't know what to say.

I never tried to run Norton AntiVirus (NAV) when LimeWire is open. What version of Norton AntiVirus do you have? I have version 7.0.2.

I think your right.

That was the exact point of my suggestion. I WAS running Norton at the same time and ran into that problem. That's why I suggested NOT running Norton at the same time in case that was the cause.

Anyway, looks like we're the only one's debating this issue. She has gone on to post her problem under other topics instead of reading the responses to this one.

Oh well.

Maybe we've helped someone! ;) :D

And, actually, I'm not running Norton at this time. Haven't reinstalled it since my hard drive crash months ago. But, it was 7.0 (according to the disc).

Try this

Hi Karen,

I also had problems with LW 2.8.x freezing and generally not working properly.

I did a search and trashed everything about LimeWire including the prefs.

I reverted to an earlier version 2.7.13 which seems to work ok for me. Maybe this will help.

I don't know how you can recover earlier version in the LW Pro. I always keep all new LW versions on a zip in case I want to go back.
