How to download movies?

I tried downloading a movie and I keep getting a message that says that I can't open the file, because I don't have the right software component needed by the movie.

I have a mac. Can I still download the nimos codec?

I downloaded Divx video validator. I still can't see the movie that I'm downloading from limewire.

I found a few codecs/encoders searching LW. Theres Mpeg4's, mpeg2 encoders, DVIX to QT, AVI to QT and others. Try indeo4 and Indeo5 and IndeoRaw extensions. Also a windows compressor extension is helpful too. I did all of my fixes by trial and error. I have an old copy of divx from way back that works on my 8.5 to convert some movies. Also Techtools file typer has helped change file types to work with QT.

I still ask myself, why so many different file type and why can't someone make a player that will play them all, like the app GraphicConverter does for pictures, only this would be for movies, call it MovieConverter....lol..wouldn't that be nice. = )

Good Luck
Nas
