Sorry to ask the same question for the nth time. Can someone kind please point me to the thread to explain how to transfer iTune files to Limeware. Limeware will not allow me to nominate iTunes Music as a shared file. I have set up a second Limeware file for sharing and can easily drag the iTunes files into it, but the Library refuses to "see" them. It is obvious that I have to tell Limeware how to "see" these files but, despite all my efforts, iTunes continues exclusive ownership. In a spirit of bounty, I have many albums to share but, at present no way to do so. With this prospect of hundred of new tracks to share, will someone please help.

LimeWire has to hash your files. If you've added a new folder or moved new files into your Shared Folder, then it will take some time for them all to show up.

Have you left it running for a while and they still don't show up?

Ok, I would suggest double checking the path to your Shared Folder. Go to Tools and choose Options. Select Shared (or Sharing) and see what folder on your Hard Drive is being shared.

Is this the same folder that your songs/files are in? If you've been moving files around, maybe you changed the folder?

I'm just guessing. Trying a process of elimination...

I don't know much about iTunes. But there are alot of threads about it. Have you checked some of those?

If the folder is correct, we can try something else. I don't know what yet, but maybe someone will...

Can't you just select your iTunes folder, the one with your songs in it, in the LimeWire sharing dialog box?

Unfortunately, this was the second thing I tried but Limeware refuses to allow me to nominate the iTunes file as a shared file. I also tried to save new iTunes mp3s to the Limeware shared file but that didn't work. I fiddled around with "export" in iTunes but that didn't do anything useful. I deleted the Limeware "Shared" file and then dragged a mixture of Limeware and iTunes files into a new "Shared" file. Limeware only accepted the old files. It is so frustrating because if you drag a Limeware file from "Shared" to the new "Shared 1", it shows up a few minutes later. I therefore conclude that iTunes writes a unique code of some sort on to its files that prevents Limeware from accessing them and I cannot find anyway of removing it. What surprises me about this is that no-one else seems to have this problem or do they consider the answer so obvious that it would be embarrassing to have to explain it to me. Well, whatever the reason, I have actually given up and deleted all the experimental files. My stock of albums spanning the last forty years will have to remain inaccessible. It will keep the copyright piracy police from my door.

Hi again David.
Your situation is quite puzzling--normally Limewire will ask what folders you want to share the first time it opens after an install (no extra steps required), so I can't guess why your Limewire setup wouldn't accept the Music folder as an additional shared folder. You went to Limewire>Preferences . . .>Sharing, right, and chose the "add" button?

Hmmm, if you've done the uninstall/reinstall, maybetroubleshooting your OSX setup will make a difference. The handiest reference I found is http://www.macattorney.com/tutorial.html.

We both know it's not the heat--it's the humidity! Maybe your Mac is taking it out on Limewire!

You shouldn't have the problems you are describing. Limewire make it as easy as possible to share files: OSX, on the other hand, turns off filesharing and the firewall on by default.

Greetings from one retiree to another!

I don't have iTunes installed so am not sure the following will help you or not.

The only way I can LimeWire to recognize my stuff is to add the suffix ".mp3" (w/o the quotes, of course) to the end of the file name. Normally this suffix is not appended in my system.

It works like magic. I knew the solution would be something simple. I only wish it wasn't going to be so bloody tedious to go through all my iTunes files adding the missing suffix. But how incredible that a document which so clearly says MP3 on its face is not actually labelled as such when it comes to other applications on the same machine. I wonder whether this is a general Mac abberation.

Whatever! It seems that retirement has boosted your problem-solving skills whereas my little gray cells are in decline. Many thanks for taking the trouble to share your wisdom.

Hi David. If you're using OSX, when you're in the Finder, click on File>Preferences, and you'll see a checkbox to show or hide extensions. This may mean you'll have double extensions.
