w/ LW upgrade things have gone down hill...fast

Please help,

I have an iMAc, runnung OS 9.1 w/ a DSL connection. I have been a happy and grateful user of LW for almost 2 years. I recently upgraded to the latest version and things have never been so bad. The movement of the cursor is so slow and the movement on screen is miserable. I can't scroll the results, typing in the search is painful and trying to download music is torture. (once the download is in progress, things are fast and fine) The other applications running are affected somewhat, but not to the extent the LW screen. I tried to download LW again, I was successful in my subsequent attempts, but the problem continues. Is there any way to down grade back to the old version?? Please say YES.

Thanks, Holly

Yes, but you could also wait a couple of days for the next version. 2.9 beta will be released really soon.

Old versions can be downloaded here:
http://www3.limewire.com/download/

Btw. your problem might go away if you kill all your downloads, - if LimeWire becomes responsive again after killing the downloads, your problems were probably related to a bug that will be fixed in the 2.9 beta.

thanks for the help so far

Thanks Trap jaw,
I went to the site w/ all the different versions of downloads but none of them are listed by OS. I don't know which one I need unless it's clearly marked compatable for MAC 9.1. I tried to download the NEWEST LW but there was no choice for MAC 9.1 either. (only MAC OSX). What do you suggest as my next move.

Holly

The MacOS version was delayed.

Hello!

The 2.9 Beta was delayed for Classical Mac OS due to a problem with the installer but it seems to have been fixed by today and it should be out very soon. But I would not recommend you as a beginner to become a beta tester instead you should wait for the full version.

There is alot of potentionall sources for your LW to behave like sirap. For instance:

To little physical RAM (320MB is recommended if you want to turn off Virtual Memory LW hates VM).

Update your MRJ to latest version 2.2.5 and after installation assign atleast 32MB of memory to it.

Your HD might be slightly fragmented. Run a Disk Tool like DiskWarrior to check for errors and if errors is found run the disk tool to repair it.

If you are connected to a bad Ultrapeer you will see this slow effect. If LW is working perfect and suddenly starts to become very slow and unresponsive just abort one or two Ultrapeers and see if the slowness lasts.

Dont run other CPU hungry apps at the same time as LW. I usually run IE,LW and MSN messenger and iTunes at the same time without a problem. But apps like Photoshop should ofcourse not be active at the same time as LW.

If after this LW still runs slowly then you might want to use a Anti virus app like Norton to check for any virus on your system. The SubSeven trojan (almost the only virus out there for Classical Mac OS users)usually delivered by mail is famous for draining system resources down untill eventually destroying your HD.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running 9.2.2 on a power g4. I loved limewire until the last upgrade, which was slow and annoying. It would crash when it was the only program running. I tried reinstalling the most recent version i could find this morning, but I had similar problems. I'm so frustrated I'm ready to throw in the towel!

I have checked my system resources and have run norton and Tech Tool and it's still going on.
