Opening LW makes it freeze I just got the new 2.9 free version of LW and when I open it, it freezes. It gets to the point where the box pops up to ask if I want to upgrade, but nothing shows up but an empty box. I'm running Mac OS 9.1 w/ 256 of RAM. It was the only program open, each time I've tried to open it. I tried to up the memory designated to it and it still doesn't work. Help! |
freeze I've experienced exactly the same problem as Jasmine; LimeWire freezes after startup / version 1.8 / Mac G4 OS 9.1. Is there a way to get it running? Sigi |

Read this thread that I partcipated in: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=19793 It explains why your LW makes your computer freeze(unable to connect causes freezing on most Macs). You need to update to the newest version. |

Check the following: Go to: Macintosh HD>System Folder>Program Preferences>.limewire folder> In here you will see a lot of preference(white ones) files for LimeWire. Open them all one at a time in Simple Text and see if they contain any text. They should all contain text of some kind. If one or more for instance Display.Props is missing text then they are corrupt. You should then download a new copy of LW 2.9.8 and install that one instead. But before the installation you should ofcourse first delete the old LW by searching for LimeWire with Sherlock 2 and delete everything LimeWire except the Shared Folder. Then perform the re-installation of your new copy.lf the text where not missing then it might be a problem with your Java(to old version) and you should except the offer during installation of LW that prompts you to upgrade MRJ. Just select yes and it will install MRJ 2.2.5 for you. Then you should increase the memory allocation to MRJ. Just highlight its original icon and from the File menu select Show Info> Memory. Increase the maximum value to 32000 but dont touch the minimum setting. and Re-Start your mac for the changes to take effect. To locate MRJ go the following path: Macintosh HD>Applications(Mac OS 9)>Apple Extras>Mac OS Runtime For Java>Apple Applet Runner>Apple Applet Reader program icon Highlight that one and assign it more memory. Also if you are running any FireWall. Try turning its exstension off and Re-Start your Mac ans see if LW will run. FireWalls could cause strange problems like this. Alsu turn off all the FAX STF exstensions. |
Hi Joakim Agren, Thanks for your advice! I reinstalled LW and it seems to work! Now if I could only find the music files I want...hehe |
