V2.9.8 works poorly w/ OS 9.1 Scoured the fora and find no solution to below: Operating LimeWire v2.9.8, on a Mac 7300 w/ Sonnet G3/450 MHz PCI upgrade card and Sonnet Tempo Ultra ATA66 PCI adapter card and a 30 GB Quantum drive dedicated to Audio and Image files (aiff, mp3 and jpeg), most of which are audio (sharing 245 mp3 files). RAM is 256 MB, 60 nsec. LimeWire operates poorly; starts to download file(s) at 3K to 5K/sec (mostly 1k-2K/sec), then after 1% to 6% completion (rarely >10%, once 63%), it stalls; msg "Could not download; Awaiting more sources. It RARELY continues. CONNECTED button lists 3, occasionly 4, hosts and apparent activity (however, don't know what the data under the cols. MESSAGES (I/O), DROPPED (I/O) [pct/0], BANDWIDTH (I/O) [0.0xx/0.0yy] means; HELP nor USER GUIDE informs). If computer goes into SLEEP mode, when awakened, LimeWire freezes. Changed SLEEP to NEVER and left the computer on all night (monitor pwr-down). No progress on downloads. Tried again all day; even tried restarting computer and new searches. NADA. In three days was successful in downloading 3 tunes. Even tried RAM Disk of 25 MB. No other app'ns running; only app'ns on this drive are OS 9.1, LimeWire, iTunes 2.0.4, Toast 5.2.1, and RealPlayer 6.0.9.584, which I've yet to use, so it's not likely an extension conflict. Any suggestions, anyone? |

Yes. If you want to download a song, try several results from the search window (like 5 to 10) at once and keep the best download. Maybe the resume button will work again in 3.0.

Response to Trap_Jaw Trap_Jaw: I've tried that...many, many times. Two or three start to download, get a few pct. progress downloading, then stop. RARELY resume, and if so, again stalls. Per other thread in forum, downloaded older v 2.8.6 and reinstalled that. Still no change. Still frustrated. |

Sorry, I don't know what else to do in that case.

Defeatist talk If you think things are bad in rural America, try being thousands of miles away in Singapore. I never make a "live" connection in more than 5% of tries and of those 5%, most stall at some point during the download. I turned LW into a game, devising strategies for optimising the download percentage once a connection was made and I now get very good results, albeit with concentrated effort required. Just leaving it to the machine is useless. You have to be proactive. And you are correct. LW does not survive sleep. You have to keep it awake. Now my experience should tell you that you can download several hundred files a week. But to get improved results, you have to want to experiment and learn from that experience. Do you want that improvement badly enough? |

Defeatist talk David 91: I've experimented with every trick I can think of; for hours and days. If, as you attest, <<Now my experience should tell you that you can download several hundred files a week>>, perhaps you will share your discoveries and not tantalize. |

Sorry People like me who allocate some time to answering these questions have lives. I do not know what you may or may not have tried and I have no intention of sitting here for an hour or so, writing a How To Guide from Step One just on the off chance that I may help you to improve your performance. Have you noticed how many other people have responded to this thread? At least I was prepared to offer the encouragement that improvement is possible. It seems that you want to add the annexing of my time without payment to the illegal downloading of copyright material without payment. This attitude will not earn you friends. |

Springer, mac 9.01, comcast, limewire, 5kb per sec sucks! Springer: Your so right, I just installed limewire, and its not working with me either. I think its the programming. It might be that comcast is is not letting too much traffic through on the port. Who knows... Will keep researching though, and if that fails, I am leaving limewire in the mud. But what a waste of time. Its free, but I should not have to troubleshoot the software... |
