Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Question limewire shut down/type 12 error?

hello, i am new to this board because for the last week or so i have been having major problems with limewire. up until now, i have been very satisfied with limewire and have found many interesting things through it.

last week, however, is when things began to go all pear-shaped. i downloaded and installed the latest version of limewire and like so many people found it to be a buggy proposition. i've spent most of the past week trying to find different means of solving the issues which that presented. i finally, or so it seemed, figured the thing out...unfortunately, something else came up and that is this:

at a certain, random, moment limewire will shut down. when it shuts down, for no disernable reason, it gives me a pop window tellng me that an error of type 12 has occurred and to save anything i was doing. then it proceeds to crash my computer completely so that i must restart it. however when i get back, i cannot access the connection. after which i must restart AGAIN and after that restart, THEN it works...until the next time it shuts down. when i finally get the thing working then i have to toss out the .limewire folder (which seems to work) and then open up limewire....only to have to go through the entire configuration set up AGAIN AND AGAIN...EVERY TIME!!!

what is wrong?!?

i've never had these issues with the previous versions of limewire that i've had!!! every since i downloaded the new version last week, i've had nothing but problems. i've also tried downloading previous versions, including the one that i had before last week, and those crap out too!!!

please help.

thank you.

a.

Hello!

An error of type 12 is very uncommon these days. It where common on System 7 but should almost not happen with OS 9.X. I have never once seen anyone on this forum have a Type 12 error when running LW. So it sure is a uncommon problem. An error of type 12 means that your Operative System tryed to use an Unimplementet Core Routine. Meaning that the OS encountered an Unimplemented Trap number. Those numbers are generated by the Trap dispatcher and contains instructions to the application when executing a specific function. In this case LW or Mac OS was unable to perform a specific instruction and the Microprocessor generated the error.

The cause of this could be one of the following:

-Not enough memory/or memory available but not usable to perform instruction. Most common if you are using Virtual Memory. If you have 320MB of physical RAM or more then you should turn off VM. If you have less then you should increase the amount of VM to atleast 193MB. But in general LW hates Macinosh type of VM and runns badly when VM is turned ON on Classical Mac OS. Another memory related issue is if you have Broken RAM in your computer. Look under About This Computer window does it display all of the installed RAM. When it comes to VM maybe you are starting to get a small amount of space left on your HD so that Mac OS is unable to use all the VM required. You should also increase the amount of memory assigned to the Java Runtime Environment application MRJ 2.2.5. If you are using an older version then upgrade to the 2.2.5 version available trough Apple's Knowledge Base. After the installation assign 32000 as the maximum value but dont touch the minimum setting. Then uninstall everything LW on your System and then download a fresh copy of LW and re-install that one instead. LW will now use the new JRE. Then Re-start your Mac and see if LW will run good.

When downloading LW make sure that you are downloading the proper version for your OS. LW 2.9.8 seems to work for most people. You can get it here:

Hello!

Are you absolutely sure that you have tried everything in the correct order as I described in my post above such as:

-Installing the latest version of MRJ which is 2.2.5(I am not counting version 2.2.6 which was a version for a specific purpose) if you dont already have that version installed ofcourse.
-After installation assigning it more memory, 32000 as the maximum value

-Only after the procdeure above is finished the new LW should be installed.

If you did and we can conclude that you are not using VM and have enough physical RAM to run LW then we have to look for other sources for the error.

Do the following:

Run a Disk Utility such as Disk First Aid or DiskWarrior or Norton etc to check for any logical errors on your Drive. If an error was found perform a repair of the drive.

If they do not see anything wrong with your drive do the following:

If you have a software FireWall and/or antivirus app installed go to your File Exchange control Panel and disable its/their Exstensions and Re-start your Mac. And now try to run LW.

Still a problem then try the following:

Maybe you have a Router that is not properly configured. Disconnect it and try to Run LW without the Router installed.

If it still does not work then you could always try this method:

Once again Uninstall everything LW on your system then download and install the 2.8.6 version that was the most stable version ever. You can get it from here:

Default try this out

Mac OS 9.1
MRJ 2.2.4
Newest Limewire available

Limewire won't launch and gives me a Type 11 error message. Restarting the machine a few times brings it back to launching, but only until the next launch;-)
I increased memory for Limewire to 64000 and that doesn't help. Now I was womdering if I should install MRJ 2.2.5 ( I am the never touch a running system type of guy).
I searched for all MRJ components on my system drive with sherlock and when I saw the folder -MRJ Cache- , I decided it would be a good guess to trash all the cache files there first and giving it one more try.
Voila, Limewire launched without problems. I did not reboot my machine, just double clicked limewire.
Maybe this can help you, too. The MRJ Cache folder is in:
System Folder-->Preference Folder-->MRJ Cache
Select all files and drag them to the trash, then empty the trash and try launching limewire.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers
peter

Default LIMIWIRE GOES BAD

I've had a bad problem after downloading LW Pro 3.2.2. The installation Wizard doesn't finish the process by doing the last 2 steps where it asks about my connection and my shared folder. But it does complete the installation and say it was successful.

Then, when I open the program, a WELCOME WIZARD window appears offering to complete my configuration of LW. But there are no buttons for "next, back or cancel", no close buttons either. I force quit by hitting ESC.

The reason I mention any of this is that LIKE YOU I had NO PROBLEMS with the FREE VERSION of LW. Then, once I had this problem with LW Pro 3.2.2, I can't use the free version, the Beta version , or Pro. No matter how many times I unintall, trash zap PRAM, rebuild desktop, I have the SAME PROBLEM.

So, like you, I can't go back to the old version which used to work. I've read quite a few threads in which people have some goofy problem. And like you and I, they had a previous version which WORKED. But once they used the newer version which caused a problem, the previous version which WORKED, now has the SAME PROBLEM.

CONCLUSION: LimeWire is LEAVING SOMETHING SOMEWHERE which doesn't go away no matter what we do, and screws up everything we try to do subsequently.

Sorry, I couldn't help directly, but maybe the LimeWire people will read this and see a PATTERN. I certainly do: WHATEVER IT IS THAT GOES WRONG, IT KEEPS COMING BACK . . . . FOREVER !!!
