![]() I am looking for specific software but can't tell if anything is offered is for Macintosh. I just need to know how I can identify Mac files before I download them. Can this be done? How can you tell? If not, is there much available for Mac? After downloading the program I need for an hour, it showed up as a Simple Text file that could not be opened by Simple Text or anything else as far as I know. It was not supposed to be a Simple Text file. Could this be a PC file? Thanks for your help! Paintera |

![]() pc files that end in .exe can't normally be used on the mac. Most mac programs that can be used have extensions like .sit, .img, or for OSX, .dmg. There's lots for mac being shared on gnutella. Another hint can be if the vendor is Limewire/Acquisition, since Limewire/Acquisition only runs on OS 10.2.4 or higher. |

![]() Exactly? That's tough to say because it probably changes from version to version. Basically, the developer of Acquisition has written very nice graphical user interface (GUI) for Jaguar users that tweaks the open source core developed by the LimeWire Project and adds some nice iTunes integration. If you want to know more, try http://www.acquisitionx.com/ or search these forums for "Acquisition." If you aren't interested in all the info the LW GUI provides like the advanced stats, vendors, connection details and alternate sources, you won't miss these features in Acquisition. |

![]() That helps a lot. I will be looking for those files you mentioned. I have Mac OS 9.2.2. I'm too afraid to get OSX at this point. I don't know how many hours I will eventually have to sink into that project of switching to OSX. -Paintera |

![]() the switch was far easier than I thought (it's only been a year for me). I think I'll be even removing a little OS9 partition soon--I just don't use it anymore. Look back at David91's posts--he switched earlier this year. Basically http://www.macattorney.com/tutorial.html tells all about OSX troubleshooting. As far as finding out what programs Mac warez people like to play with, search for Serial Box to see a list. |

![]() That's what my friend said too about Mac OSX. I didn't want to take it from just one person. That link on troubleshooting OSX is nice too. Now I'm just concerned that when I run carbon programs or pre-Mac OSX programs that they will be too slow and unstable on my computer with Mac OSX. I heard that OSX simulates the old operating system for this older software and so has this problem of being slower/less stable. I have a G4 with 512 mg ram so maybe that's enough. I dunno. Is david91 really 91 years old? I won't necessarily believe that. I see that he is still enjoying some sort of seaweed liquor. Crazy dude. -Paintera |

![]() I am new and would appreciate advice on what programs and types I should be looking for Mac OSX? If I am looking for "The Sim's 2" for OSX would I do the following in search: The Sim's 2.dmg? Is there a better file type than another? Are .sit programs for OSX or just OS9? Thanks |
