duplication between shared folder and itunes I'm running Limewire on an eMac, OSX. I transfer all of my downloads from my shared Limewire folder to iTunes. I also have my iTunes library in my shared folder so I can share my CD collection. My question is: am I duplicating alot of MP3 files. Can I delete the downloaded ones in my shared folder after I transfer them to iTunes. Once I transfer them to iTunes are the files "there" without them being in the original shared folder? It seems that I'm taking up alot of space by having the same stuff in both places. I don't understand computers enough to know for certain. I figure if I transfer things to iTunes than I can delete individual files from my shared folder and still share everything since my iTunes library (where the files have been transfered) is also in the shared folder. I'm confused. And probably confusing. Thanks for any help. |
There is an option in the itunes preferences panel that copies all audio files put into it into its special itunes folder. Then, the files that are added to playlists and such are not the ones you put in, but the ones that are now copied to the itunes. You can turn off the option, and delete the itunes files, but be warned that every single file in your library in itunes will not exist and your playlists will not work. It's a hassle, but then you can add all your songs back into itunes from their original LW shared location. It's a horrible option in itunes, and the default is on. Really a pain. I had about 6-7GB of music that the thing copied, quite inconveinant. But, I did the above, and all is well now. |
