Default limewire freezes and mouse turns into a skid mark

I am running the latest version of limewire on an eMac and everytime i open it, it freezes the whole computer (before i can download anything) and turns the mouse arrow into what looks like a tire skid mark. Force quit doesnt even work so i have to do a hard shut down with the power button. It does the same thing on previous versions such as 2.9.8. I have also tried re-installing it many times and the same thing happens. Anyone else having the same problem? what might be going on with my limewire?

Sounds like an OS9 memory problem. LW should have 60 megs of memory to run decently. On OSX you shoudn't have this problem.
Are you booted in 9 or 10?

If you have OS X, I'll give my usual spiel with all OS X bugs. Go to jum's website http://baghira.han.de/~jum/ and download the latest LW version of the jum build. It has numerous minor bug fixes including reducing cpu and memory usage.

I agree with stief too on the 9 thing, sounds like a memory issue.

Another thing though, the app might be getting enough memory, but if the person is an ultrapeer, he/she might not have the CPU/memory capacity to handle it effectively even if it is getting the recommended memory.

could be. see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097

If you're on AOL, you'll want the java 2.2.6

What OS are you using? The emac should have the latest java. If reinstalling java doesn't work and you've given LW lots of memory on OS9, then extensions manager is your next stop, especially the FaxSTF extensions.

I'm having the same problem of freezing the cursor after starting up v3.5.8 on my 350 iMac . allocated 120Megs to LW. turned virtual memo off. will increase also memory for Java 2.5.5. Going to turn systemextensions for Faxstaff off.
Any other suggestions ?

The cursor might be "freezing" while LW indexes ("hashes") all the files to share for the first time. This is very processor intensive, so just be patient and let LW work for ~15 minutes (or more if you are sharing lots of files).

Exclamation crash

hello stief,
Thanks for your reply but I meant that LW shuts down and that the Mac needs a hard reset.
in the meantime I also increased memory for apple applet runner and disabled the Faxstf extensions. Results of this latest action are going to be clear soner or later (the better).
