![]() been using limewire for a while - switched to it after napster bit the dust. i have limewire pro 3.4.5 (i think i wasted my money buying pro. i can't tell the difference between this one and the free one - except that the free one had skins that i could change and this one doesn't. what is up with that?)..... the files in my shared folder will not show up for other people to see. they do show up right after i download them, but as soon as i shut off limewire, then start it up later, it will show that i am sharing 0 files. both versions did this. what is going wrong? |

![]() i am sharing the correct folder - the one i save to. mac files do not have extensions after them (i.e. .mp3). the odd thing is that if i download 10 *anything* (mp3, whatever...) at, say, 10:00am, those 10 *anythings* will immediately show up as being shared. then i shut off the program. if i start it up 10 minutes later, it shows that i am sharing nothing. are there some extensions that maybe i should try entering into the list or ones to share, that are not there by default, that might help? |

![]() The Mac extensions should show. On OSX Finder->Preferences there is an option to always show extensions, but this doesn't affect the naming of my downloads, only the files I create. If you are using OS9 or earlier, the names might be getting truncated and you'll have to edit them to manually add the .mp3 extension. This sounds doubtful (test by downloading a short name mp3) and once it shows "complete", check your shared folder to see what name it ended up with. If all this doesn't work, uninstalling (along with the preference files) and a new clean install would be next. Cheers |

![]() i've tried just manually adding the .mp3 and that doesn't work. immediately after i download an mp3 it goes to my download folder. i can change the name to remove the .mp3 and it still shows up, as long as i have limewire still running. (i.e. i can download "road song.mp3" and change the name to "road song" and it still shows up as long as i keep limewire opened. it still shows up as shared, no matter what i name it. but, once i shut down limewire and re-open it, the shared folder shows it is empty - 0 shared files. i have completely uninstalled it, re-installed it, trashed preference for it. i am using 9.2.2. |

![]() Look for a file called "limewire.props" (In System Folder->Preferences->.limewire ) For a clean install you need to trash it (it contains all your preferences), or to really do a clean install, also trash the .limewire folder. Do you have OSX on your machine too? (just wondering if LW is reading from the wrong prefs). You can use sherlock to search for anything containing "limew" both visible and invisible in case there are some old prefs sitting in unexpected places. |

![]() i have trashed the prefs, more than once. i have used the uninstaller that comes with the program and used that, then deleted everything with "lime" in the name, then re-installed. this i've done 3 or 4 times. still no luck. thanks for the ideas so far, though. i had the same problem when i used the free version of limewire. i had hoped that upgrading to the pro would fix the problem, but it didn't. no, i don't have OSX, also. only 9.2.2 |

![]() Sorry to hear that. After you quit though, the files are still in the Shared folder, right? Hmm. Go to Control Panels->General and see if "protect System folder" or Protect Application Folder" is checked. If your shared folder is inside either, you can't write to it. [edit: I just checked and my OS 9.2.2 doesn't have those options--they were in OS 8.6] At least now you are entitled to Pro Support (email them your description and tell them you've tried to work it out in the forum--maybe you'll get an answer). the only other things I can think of are not too common--i.e Try setting the number of days to keep incompletes (Tools->Options) to some other higher number. The default should show 7. This works for some other problems. You can rebuild the desktop and hope that will somehow caused the Shared and Incomplete folders to be "recognized" Lastly, try looking at your Control Panels->Extensions Manager, and turn off any none OS 9 extensions. Extension conflicts can cause all sorts of problems, but I've never heard of one doing what you describe. Last edited by stief; August 21st, 2003 at 06:58 PM. |

![]() yes, after i quit, the files are still in the folder - they downloaded correctly and i can play them with any mp3 player, they just don't show up as being shared the next time i start up LW. i've tried everything i can think of. zapped pram. rebuilt desktop. optimized. checked for invisible files that might screw anything up. i've even re-downloaded LW Pro and re-installed from the new installer. thanks for the help anyway. i'll try to change the days to keep incompletes. if it makes any change, i'll let you know. |
