![]() i just downloaded the newest free version of limewire and i can't connect. i am not running through a proxy, and i'm not behind a firewall. my roommate can get limewire up and running just fine (we both run Mac OS 9.2). any ideas? i downloaded the new version because my old version developed this same problem, after having worked just fine for over a year. |

![]() it's a known problem with all p2p networks. Whenever I'm stumped, I try to start fresh by running the uninstall program and deleting the old preferences--even deleting the old incomplete folder. All the upstream connect problems I can think of are irrelevant, since your roommate who has the same setup (including LW version?) can connect fine (unless the telephone/ethernet cable is flaky). If you take whatever cable that plugs into your roommate's machine and plug it into yours, that will certainly tell you if the problem is in your box. Where? Hmm. If a clean install shows it's not LW, then I'd compare the Java version, memory allocation, and extensions conflict. After that, sounds like Norton needs to take a look. The easiest would be to closely compare both the setups to see why one works and the other doesn't. Let us know how it goes--this is bugging me too. |

![]() does memory allocation involve virtual memory? if so, i've got 193M designated as virtual memory. that hasn't changed for nearly 3 years. i compared my setup with my roommates: no differences. i think i'm just going to start over with a clean install. |

![]() If you click once on the LW app icon and use "get info" (command-I) you can set the preferred memory--60 megs should do it. This is how much memory Limewire can use. (Virtual memory tells the system to use hard disk space instead of memory chips when it runs out, which works, but much more slowly). Search also for the Apple Applet Runner (it's usually in the Utilities or Extras folder), and give it 60 megs too. You can check at the same time to see if it is the MRJ version 2.2.5. (That means the java version is Apple's 2.2.5, which is the proper one for classic). Cheers--glad the cables are fine. btw, the easiest way to find the LW prefs is use Sherlock to search for "limew" |
