Question iTunes Playback

My downloaded tunes used to open in iTunes 95% of the time, 5% in Quicktime. Now they only open in Quicktime. I'm running OS 9.04. I may have upgraded QT and "accidentally" changed things. I've looked in LW, QT, and iTunes for a way to change this behavior with no luck. Can anyone provide detailled instructions on how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Can't give you the details for OS 9.0.4, but another place to look is the Control Panel File Exchange: it also maps files to apps. If you can still drag the tune to iTunes and it opens there, you might also try "Rebuilding Desktop" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182
