Default No Limewire for Some Macs...?

Okay, for several months I've been checking for solutions to the dreaded MRJ problem...

Even after all the many solutions and suggestions, apparently there are just SOME Macs that Limewire won't work with. That seems to be the dead end I'm at, and it's so frustrating. In the past I used Napster and Mactella, but now, since I can't get Limewire to run, I've got nothing. I'm jonesin' for new music.

I'm hoping there's an alternative, or an answer, or a solution I haven't tried yet, but I'm pretty sure I've covered every single one of them I've read in the forums.

Any help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated.

Could you please tell us what sort of system you are running? That will help us help you.

Alright.

First try dling the latest version of Limewire.

Secondly, if that doesn't work, what exactly IS your problem? You say LW doesn't work? Does it not connect? Does it connect but doesn't return searches? Do searches not return successful downloads?

Default No Limewire/Some Macs...continued saga

As I said, I've tried every single suggestion posted in the forums. I can't install LW, no matter what version I download, or which site I download it from. The problem is the dreaded ""Unable to launch Java App. MRJ may not be installed correctly".

I've re-installed Java, updated MRJ, downloaded every version of LW, from different sites, etc., etc. You name it, and I've been trying it for over a year.

From what I've read, it seems like there are just some machines that are unable to use/work with Limewire, no matter what.
I'm hoping that's NOT true, and I'm still willing to try new suggestions.

Thanks SO much.

Alright. Here's something that will probably work.

I looked up on Mactracker (nice little program that), that your B+W G3 can support up to Mac OS X. You're running 9.1. I would suggest that you update to 9.2.2. It's free. Yes, it's a hassle, but if you really want to do this, I think that might do it.

Default LW/Mac...Wary of 9.2 upgrade

Thanks for taking the time to help me out, I do appreciate it.

But....I'm very hesitant about the 9.2 upgrade. I've listened to many sad stories of the hassles it's caused. (i.e., application conflicts, etc).

I'm a graphic designer, using all the standard desktop publishing programs (Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).

9.1 has been fairly stable (knock wood), and you know what they say: "If it ain't broke, don't upgrade"---or something like that.

If that's the only way you think LW will work, I'm not sure if I can risk it. Any thoughts? If I did, how difficult would it be to go back to 9.1 if I needed to?

Did Mactracker have any other thoughts about this? ;-)

I'll be waiting patiently here, chicken that I am.

Mactracker says you can take the latest OS X release.

I entirely sympathize with how you feel. I felt the same way when upgrading from 9.0 to 9.2.

The only way to really look at this, is to go to the publisher of your software's website and check their compatability. Search Apple's forums and supports for known conflicts. If you're a graphic designer, ask other people in your industry what OS they use, and if they've encountered any problems upgrading.

If you're really not feeling confident about it, you could install (not upgrade) 9.2 on a separate drive, so that worse case scenario, you simply switch back to your 9.1 drive.

From my experience, when I had my ol' iMac DV SE 400, and updated from 9.1-9.2.2, I had no problems to speak of, but then, different situations entirely, of course, but it's nice to hear a happy ending .

Default 9.2 upgrade

I have done a 'survey' of what others are using, and most of them are on 9.1, like me.

I don't have another drive to install it on. Is there any other way?

Reverting back would probably not be a simple task, right?

There's no other way while still keeping your current data. You can't partition your drives, because you only have one with stuff on it.

No, it's not easy to revert, you have to install 9.1 again and then trash the 9.2 version.
