Sorry I haven't posted this update sooner. Thanks to ALL who have offered solutions. Here's where I'm at:
1) Re-installed Carbonlib with no results
2) Tried running Conflict Catcher, but got SO bogged down & confused by it, I gave up. (Now I remember why I never use it) Any suggestions on how to narrow down the testing would be appreciated.
3) Love those suggestions about a new computer, and donations will be happily accepted. Until then...not. <g>
4) Just a reminder...I haven't even been able to INSTALL Limewire, much less getting to the point of increasing memory, etc. And yes, I have tried increasing memory of the installer.

So...right back at ya, boys....still waiting for a miracle.

Have you tried disabling virtual memory whe you install?

Or enabling it if you have it diabled? (enable to 1 MB above real RAM)

Tried that latest suggestion about disabling virtual memory, with no luck.

Salut, here's a suggestion: install virtual pc on your computer and install windows 98, then you'll be able to install a P2P that will run slowly but you'll get music without messing too much with your computer.

Hmm...that sounds like more work than it's worth. Buying the software is the first problem, I guess.

Sorry if I didn't see you had tried this (just another long shot), but have you tried installing with all extensions turned off by holding down the shift key on a restart?

I'm wondering if something like Ram Doubler or Adobe TYpe Manager might be involved. I guess I just can't see how LW can run on an old OS 8.6 machine but not on yours, unless there is some unusual 3rd party stuff installed.

I did try restarting w/extensions off. No luck.

I do have ATM, but not RamDoubler. Also, not running any *unusual* third-party stuff, that I can think of.

A thought, and maybe a stupid question: Since the problem is with the installer (I haven't even gotten past that yet), is there any other way to get it installed?

IMHO, the easiest and most risk free (ref: your graphics work) way to have the best of both worlds is to put another HD into that ole' B&W. A good HD with ample space can be had for 60<$>80 brand new. The install of an additional HD in your G3 is a very simple procedure that would require no specialty tools or complex procedural issues.
Actually, having more than 1 HD is a good idea, especially if you are running a business. One HD (with all the data) remains as it is with no changes, i.e., formatting,OS, the other HD, you can format any way you want and install an upgraded OS. If you are gunshy of OS9.2.2, I would recommend OS9.2.1. I too, am a dedicated Classic user and will be for a long time. I use 9.2.1 on my PM8600/300 Mach5 and have used it with LW Pro for a year or so with no problems. The occasional java quirk is minimal and the quirks have been becoming more infrequent with new LW Pro releases. As an additional item to think about, look at your OS and make sure you have all your updates. I'm not just talking the specific 9.1 updates. Remember to have all updates, i.e., OT, MRJ, TCP/IP, etc, etc. Many of those updates are non-OS specific. That means you can run with internet big dogs and still have years enriched Macs with Classic systems. I run the same OS on all of my classic Macs (7600/200 is the oldest) and don't experience any problems with LW Pro. Hope this helps, good luck.
