going pro is just as slow

upgraded to pro from freeby after hearing limewire quotes" faster download times". up graded today but to my disgust download speeds are just as crap.
As anyone else had this problem and is there a solution, please.Using a cable modem on a imac 500mhz.

I've got a similar setup, but found dl speed to really depend on the speed of the host sharing the file. If I can get lots of sources for a file, the downloads can hit >100KB/s--just about my max. Then again, a rare file from a firewalled or often busy modem can be ~1KB/s or less.

Can't comment on the advertising (I still get Pro just to support the open source LW project), but downloads are definately better than earlier this year, and the 3.6 versions are pretty good. I did try a free version, and can't say I saw alot of difference, but that means so little since dl's are mostly controlled by the slowest host.

Just keep searching for files with lots of sources.

reply appreciated

Many thanks for your reply.Ihope others will take note that paying $18.88
on the understanding that downloads will be faster is very misquoted.limewire should provide a trial period!

The 'free' version is the 'trial.' Anyone can also download the source, since it is an opensource project. That's why I prefer to think of the pro as a 'donation' rather than a 'purchase'. More info is here: http://www.limewire.org/

Anyway--welcome to gnutella, and happy sharing.
