A year ago I downloaded Limewire worked like a charm for two months then I took my computer in for another problem. Techincian through away Limewire. When I tried to download Limewire would never work will I have been reading these boards for months and I read on one post this person was having same problem, and I did what another member mentioned and sure enough I got Limewire to work... I downloaded probably 18 songs so far... Will the last 3 days all I get when I choose a song title to download is queuing the file I have waited for as mush as 20 minutes nothing happens I also disconnect and connect again.. If anyone has any ideas or knows whats going on can you help me. I would very much apppreciate it. Thanks in advance... I am using a G4/450 OS 9.1

I'm having the same problem. I'm on Mac OS9.2.2. My previous version of Limewire worked like a dream, the latest version doesn't do anything and now I can't locate an old version to reinstall! In 3.6.15, any file clicked on says "queued". If I cancel the download and attempt it again nothing happens (ie. the file doesn't even appear in the downloading window at all). Can ANYONE help??? Is it anything to do with specific memory allocations etc??? It's got nothing to do with any settings within the program... I've tried everything.

I've finally got it working great again! It was down to memory, pure and simple. I'm now allocating Minimum size at 70,000K and Preferred size at 100,000k with MRJ 2.2.5 installed and it's rocking.

Could you please explain how to allocate more memory. Sorry to sound so dumb. thanks again....

You will need to be running Runtime For Java 2.2.5 on your machine, and this is where you get it. I would imagine it's already on your machine. Look in your Apple Extras folder for a folder called Mac OS Runtime For Java and check the version number. If you haven't got it, install it now.

Open the Memory Control Panel (it's in Control Panels in the System Folder). Make sure Virtual Memory is switched on. The recommendation is that you then increase the number that appears (this represents the virtual memory Mb you're allocating the machine) by at least 44, but preferably by 64 or more. How much you can allocate is determined by how much RAM you've got installed on your machine). Personally I added 180. Leave RAM disk off. Reboot your computer.

Go to Apple Menu > About This Computer. Check how much memory your OS is using, see how much memory is available to you, do the maths and decide how much memory you can afford to give limewire (plus leave some "extra" for the system, to be on the safe side). Obviously, any other programs you run simultaneously will drain available RAM. Then...

Highlight the Limewire program icon (the actual one, not an alias). Once it's highlighted go to the file menu (top of the screen by the apple menu icon), and select File>Get Info>Memory. This is where you set the memory each program "asks" for from the system. Set Preferred Size to the value you decided on, and set Minimum Size to a smaller size (this is the least RAM you want the system to allocate, ie. when you're running other applications simultaneously etc). Suggested Size is meaningless. I have 385Mb RAM, so I've set my Preferred to 100,000 and Minimum to 70,000 and it's working a treat. If you have only 125Mb RAM or something, I'd suggest you should go to at least 250.

Then (last bit), find the advice written by SBERLIN on this forum site about speeding up the program. It involves a tiny bit of editing of one of the documents which comes with the program and works really well.
