Anyone familiar with m4a files?

I have some songs with .m4a extensions that won't play on my OS9.2.

I have Snitch so I can add the creator and file type but I don't what they are.

Does anyone know and, if so, can these be converted to mp3 and added to Itunes?

Thanks for any help.

I'm not not sure because I just installed system 10.3 yesterday, but I think they are the newer file type created by QuickTime and I don't think they will work with system 9. I don't swear by this, but I think it's true. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

Hmm...
As I figured it out (yea me), .m4a is actually mpeg4. iTunes for OSX converts (by default I think) any files it imports into this format.
I'm not too sure about 9.2's iTunes, but since you tell me you can't play them, then...
In OSX, you can go to preferences and choose a different import format (like .mp3 or whotevah). I figure that you either are gonna have to look for an .m4a-to-.mp3 converter for 9.2 (if such a thing exists) or empty your wallet and pay for a newer OS (if supported by your Mac)

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying and also think that I have actually played some of these files before but don't know the creator. I have Snitch to change or convert any type of file, but one must know the "creator" in order to do that. I've tried TVOD but that's not working.

mp4

you can burn the mp4 or if you have toast drop it in toast to make it in to a mp3

Thanks but don't have Toast. As I said, I think I can convert it with Snitch if someone can tell me the "creator."

Tough. As I said previously, .m4a can be created by many applications, much like .mp3. Try running a search in Google for a soft wich will tell you what application was used to create the file or sumthin' (I'm pretty sure such a thing exists)

Try this link for converting MP3 to ACC.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93123. Also some ACC files cannot be shared (yet) someone will figure out how. Has something to do with Apple and I Tunes working together to stop file sharing.
