Default Anyone familiar with m4a files?

I have some songs with .m4a extensions that won't play on my OS9.2.

I have Snitch so I can add the creator and file type but I don't what they are.

Does anyone know and, if so, can these be converted to mp3 and added to Itunes?

Thanks for any help.
