Can not install newest version on a Mac. OK. I downloaded the new 1.6b for mac on a g3 upgraded powerbase running OS 9.1. Unfortunately, I neglected to run the uninstall program before the first time I ran the new install. I noticed that the "Install Anywhere" app began installing the same previous version 1.4b. When it finished I proceeded to run the uninstaller app. However, whenever I download and try to install LimeWire 1.6b, it always installs 1.4b. Haven't I actually downloaded 1.6b? I've tried several downloads with the same results. Did I cause this by not uninstalling? I have tried throwing away IE caches with no effect. What am I missing? Help! |
for what it's worth, i don't think the problem is you.... it appears to me that the installer that downloads when you try to get 1.6b is exactly the same as the installer for 1.4b. (i happen to still have that one laying around on my hard drive, and the new one has the same size and creation date.) i'm assuming it's just a mistake, but i've tried downloading 1.6b from three different sources, and keep getting the same old thing. |
Mac Install Tips This is my experience with OS 8.6 on three very different Macintosh machines (Classic, not OSX). Since Limewire 1.4b (that is, for 1.5, 1.6, 1.6b), the installer says it is installing "14b", however it actually installs the correct version. Limewire is very slow because of java implementation (not Limewire's fault), and that includes connections and all refreshes, including buttons. It requires patience. Have a martini and don't do anything rapidly, especially mouse clicking. Stop drinking once you get used to response times on your machine. Use minimal extensions and avoid using other applications (as much as you can). Install latest OS updates for your machine/OS, particularly MRJ. Download _Classic_ installer from Limewire or Gnutelliums. Before any Limewire install, I manually remove previous limewire version from drive (Limewire folder & Incomplete folder) and empty trash. Note, there is nothing to remove from System Folder that I know about. Restart computer with extensions off (shift-key down). Install Limewire. When done, empty Trash. Give Limewire 40 Mb application memory, but do not run it. Restart computer with your minimum extension set. Start Limewire. Okay, sometimes it really does not configure or connect properly the first time, so reboot machine and try again. |
