Default opening new mp3 downloads

ever since a certain period of time whenever i download a new song limewire doesn't know how to open it. it doesn't even attempt to open the file and i believe that limewire somehow lost its movie player memory so it doesn't know how to open the new mp3s. they still open when i am in my "shared" folder i just have to manually select to play the mp3s with movie player. this is not the case with my new mpegs just with my new mp3s. i don't know what i did to somehow erase limewire's memory of how to open NEW mp3 downloads and how to fix it. thanks

Are you using OS X or 8/9? I'm guessing pre-osx b/c you didn't mention iTunes as a player.
In your LW Preferences, go to Player (it's about 9th on the list) & make sure the LW media player is ticked. If it is, untick & tick it on again, click Apply. That should do the trick. You need to have dwnlded at least a small portion of it before you can preview it with LW's media player. Tell us if you're still having problems after trying that. (Also tell us which OS & LW version you're using.)

i think i have the newest LW, but i don't know where to look. i don't know what typa mac this is, was given to me from a family friend. model w/ the back of computer and built in speakers the same color. it says "iMac" on the front of it. my LW doesn't have a "preferences" section, but an "options" section and in the options section i see nothing talking about my player.

My appologies. That means you're probably using OS 9 on an iMac. The last non-osx version LW I used was v.2 (3 mths ago) & that didn't have a media player. So I'm a little stumped. It will most likely be somewhere under the Tools-Options menu somewhere. It will most likely be in a sub-menu somewhere under Options (ie: Options menu leads to other menus. Check all of these sub-menus.)
