Repeating Error Message Using LimeWire for just two days now. Held off downloading it for a year because of the bad reviews on VersionTracker/MacUpdate but the last postings-comments- were somewhat positive. So what the hell. I keep getting a repeating error pane that will not stay deleted. It says to automatically send the bug report to LimeWire but that won't work-"no internet connection" though I am online?-so I do it manually through the clipboard to mail app. OK, so far so good. I'm thinking that perhaps I'll get a response and a suggestion for a remedy, but no. An automated mail back says the information will be used by developers to aid in solving future problems. WTF? My problem is NOW! So here I am on this forum not knowing how to describe the problem really. I can include a link to the bug file if anyone can understand it. Click here: http://homepage.mac.com/cthulhu3/fil...ort%20copy.rtf I just want to get rid of that error pane. Downloading does not seem to be affected. I dunno if this experiment is going to be a big pain in the *** or what. |

Don't worry about the bug report: just set your options to Bug Reports-> Always discard. Apple, LimeWire and others have given up on Java for OS 9, so even the report won't help the future. Sigh--OS X is becoming the only real optionn if you want to keep up with filesharing on the Mac. |

Thanks. I put LimeWire on the old iMac because I was worried about system screwups after reading the warning comments about it. I keep the G4 10.3.6 machine free of any software I have any doubts about. The problem fixed itself when I rebooted anyway. Now if I could only get the audio files to launch from the Library. As it is I need to go into the hard drive to System/Preferences/Shared folder and re-open them in Quicktime. A real bother to say the least. Just can't figure out what has happened. The first two audio files work fine, but all others since don't-they appear as a blank page icon with a title in the drive folder-but the video files I download are all hunky dory. Elmer Fudd is whispering in my ear about something scwewey going on around here. |

For OSX, just create a user account for Limewire, and enable Fast User Switching (I test all the betas in such an account, which isolates it from my regular account). No regrets in the last year and many many betas. Because LW then runs in an isolated user space, all your other stuff is protected. Just use the Fast User Switching to let LW keep running in that account while you do whatever you regularly do in the regular account. For the OS 9 mapping of mp3's to quicktime, the easiest fix is to open the QT Control Panel, and get it to reset QT as the default type. If that doesn't work, it's time to rebuild the desktop/ start messing with the TYPE/CREATOR codes/ searching posts in this Mac forum for "Quicktime" |
