I think I may hire a Geek Squad guy to come out, because my computer may be ailing.

hmm, well, the only thing i have fax related on my computer is a brand of Fax machine description in my extensions folder. could the description give me the problems with the program?

For OS 9.2 also make sure your Java is the last for that version: Java MRJ 2.2.6 (click on link) & although it specifies 9.2.2 as the prerequisite, Read this comment by Callahan about Java (click on link)
By the way, all OS 9 updates are here: Available OS 9 Updates
And MRJ 2.2.5 for OS 8.1-9.2 unless you wan't to take callahan's advice.

Yes that fax extension may cause clashes & crashes so unless you use it then at least disable it. I removed it aftr disabling it.

not having to trouble-shoot extension conflicts is a huge reason to prefer OS X

Basically, you have to start with extensions off, then re-add extensions either one at a time, or package group by package group until you find the one(s) causing the error.

Restarting every time between each change is necessary, but really tedious.

here's how Apple says to do this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60495

Please post back when you find the problem: you'll save others the hassle.

first and foremost, i found out that i can run the programs if i turn it to japanese (since i have the japanese language kit installed) LW will run, as well as the un-installer.

ran the un-installer so i can start clean, now expander hits a snag with trying to unzip the crazy thing.

if its not one thing, its another ^__^;

Unzip??? It should be a bin file! You may need to update your StuffIt Expander: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/updates.html version 7

unzip....expand, its about the same thing, and yes i have version 7 of stuff-it, it keeps hitting some error, error # 17999, is the number given, but the prompt says, unspecified.

so i dunno

oh and btw, is there any programs besides disk first aid that can repair my drive? it found a problem, but said it couldn't repair it and i'm sure fixing it would be a good idea.

Disk Warrior 2 & Norton. I'd recommend DW b/c my guess is it's a directory corruption. DW is designed specifically for that issue but in OSX I found Norton more effective to fix it & yes even in OS9 sometimes Norton can fix it. There are other utilities out there but. I'd recommend these two 1st. When you're moving files frequently off a HDD or partition then it does leave the way for some directory errors. But these errors are potentially hazardous to file recovery so fix them now. asap

Error 1799: http://support.allume.com/techsuppor...p?id=517&prod=

Rebuild your desktop for a start to see if that does any help: restart computer holding down apple & OPTION keys simultaneously.
