Hi raidercats Ouch--this advice is VERY rusty, but connection problems are often triggered by a bad list of possible connections. Those connections are stored in a "gnutella.net", but I can't remember if LW for OS 9 has a file like that. Search these forums to find a replacement. Such LW files are stored in the System Folder/Preferences (I think?). If so, you can replace it, when LimeWire is quit. Also, if LW is trying to connect to many incompletes at once, this can stall connections. So, try to remove them (I can't recall preciselyhow that was done) and see if that helps. Another possibility is to connect to a known LW directly. Does LW 4.0.10 have the "Direct Connect" option? best wishes, and sorry for the vague reply. |
Thanks it is a place to start. Nothing is vague when you have nowhere else to trun. I'll try your ideas. Thanks again. |
Bummer it still says disconnected/no files available, at the bottom it says connecting so many of so many files. It says go and click on connect, connect is click and it won't let me search. What did I do wrong. Bummer. #$^& ((*^%^ ^&$%$T#$) Raider |
Hmmm. Did you find and replace the gnutella.net file, and/or delete the incompletes? |

click on the "edit" button for that post |
Gnutella.net file did exist for OS 9 & is found in the limewire preferences folder. Location is: Macintosh HD -> System -> Preferences -> .limewire __ (notice the . in front of the limewire name) If you view the Preferences folder in 'list' mode, you will find the .limewire folder sitting at or near the top of the preferences folder. Inside the LW preferences folder you will find the gnutella.net file which should be replaced; The link below will take you to a file hosting site where you can download a file named gnutella.net. zSHARE - gnutella.net If that link doesn't work, try this other one. gnutella.net LW MUST be closed when you do this! This is very important. :) |
Thanks. I found the folder trash the file. Then went to both sites and at gnutella.net I join and downloaded what I needed it says it is in my file, but I'll be damn if I can find it to place it where it goes. I starting to think I have computer problems from running an old system. Thanks for help. but still no fix. I can't understand why it worked for so long and now it's broke. I have no problem going Pro, but am afarid if I did I would have the same problem. I am going to look into an up-grade. Any other thoughts please shoot them at me. Thanks again. Still Confused |
Pro would not fix a connection problem. Put the gnutella.net file inside the preferences folder. However, LimeWire program must be closed at that time. In your menu bar, Tools -> Options ... set it so LW connects manually, not as soon as you start the program. Might be an idea to purge your incomplete folder. Open LW, cancel all the incomplete download files by selecting all files listed in download window & press cancel or stop (can't remember what it's called in OS 9 version.) Close LW again. Then go to the incomplete folder, remove all the incomplete files by trashing them. This will take pressure off your modem/router when LW is attempting to connect. ;) Then open LW, let it sit a few minutes. Then go to File menu -> Connect. Be patient for it to connect. It might take 5, 10, or even 20+ mins to connect. ;) If you wish to try a different Classic version, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...-see-here.html. I had good results with LW 4.0.2 but all versions worked fine. :) For different OS 9 systems, sometimes one version worked better than others. ;) BTW on my G4, I had a few classic versions installed at same time. Surprisingly, on my system at least, having different versions installed did not seem to affect the connection or anything else. However each was installed into a different location, be it different folder, partition or hard disk drive. ;) (My very first version 4 was 4.0.4 however I cannot find which cd I backed up the installer onto. And I'm not about to pass across a much earlier version 2 I started with lol) |
