Tell Apple to fix their java and their Quality Assurance testing. I gather the update adds new "funtionality" to the IPods, so your iPod will still work, but without whatever new 'goodies' they wanted to sell you. This article suggests that the automatic Software update no longer installs the bad version. http://java.ittoolbox.com/news/display.asp?i=137816&t=7 |

I have the same problem with Limewire on my G5 (with 10.3.9 - I have not yet tried it on my ibook with 10.4.2). I tried to do what the others here have done but it would not let me reinstall the java update. When I looked in my LIbrery/Receipts folder, the only thing there is something for the adobe reader, nothing about the security update. Followin another link on this forum I followed Apple's support page re admitted problems with Limewire. However, when I went into Terminal and types jave - version, I did not receive the 'Segmentation Fault' message. It just told me my version. Not quite sure what to do now. Any other suggestions? |

Take a look at Receipts folder sample image & you'll see a few Java versions. One is the security update (oh I just realised the JavaSecurityUpdate4.pkg doesn't show in that example.) However, I've found a lot of people have been able to solve the issue by re-installing Java 1.42_update2. If you choose that one, then that's the one you'd need to remove from the receipts folder; ie: Java1.42_Update2.pkg Get that installer here http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html The Java 1.42 for Tiger is a different install. AFAIK it's still this one (if you're having similar problems): Java 1.4.2 for Tiger (click on link) But if you have Tiger, you might be just as well off getting Java 1.5 (however you'd need to follow the suggestions in the following link to force LW to use it ... it won't use it unless you use java utility to tell it to): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301073 There should be some small improvements by allowing LW to use Java 1.5 |

I've been having no problems with the newest iTunes or LW versions in regards to music transfering. The LW playlist within iTunes should be igored. It cannot be copied or burned. You need to use the other techniques for transfering music to iTunes. It's discussed here How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes) for mac users |

lw isnt running on mac osx 10.3.9 hello i just downloaded limewire 4.10.9 onto my mac osx 10.3.9 and have done everything the help area has told me but still i am get the message that the application limewire has unexpectedly quit. the system and other applications have not been affected. would you to submit a bug report to apple? now I went to the limewire site and read about the issues that osx 10.3.9 has with this program and went to the links and downloaded the upgrade for the java and still nothing can someone help me with this matter? |

You should only remove the java1.4.2update2.pkg file if the system disallows you from installing the 1.4.2 java. If this is the case it will either say, already installed no update necessary or give a null error. Only in that case do you remove the receipt file which can be found in the OSX HDD -> Library -> Receipts folder. Receipts folder sample image. The system requires the receipts files so normally these files should never be touched. |
