Default Limewire and e-mails

Hi Folks !

Excuse my ignorance. Are there any compatability problems between Limewire and e-mail programs ?
I'm just back from holiday and found that I am receiving e-mail ok from blueyonder broadband but I can't send out via smtp.blueyonder. It says server not responding. I've phoned blueyonder and they say everything seems ok. I've pinged and the connection seems to be fine. Am I right in thinking there might be a problem with a recent version of limewire I've downloaded and some sort of firewall issue is stopping me sending out from that address ? I can send out on my mac.com and gmailcom addresses but not the blueyonder account which is the main one me and my family use.

Any help appreciated !

Colin

My guess is your LW is using up all your bandwidth & that's why you're having problems. I might be wrong.

But if I am correct then perhaps the following thread might be helpful: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=41970
It might be an idea to reduce both up/downld bandwidth for LW a little.

Thanks for that piece of advice. I've tried that but unfortunately no luck.

If you use a router, check it's softw page to see if any ports are blocked. Some routers use NAT firewalls which block a range of ports. Also check to see which port LW is using (LW Preferences>Advanced>Firewalls & see listening port no.)

I don't have a router, I use a G5 Mac running Tiger (OSX10.4.2) with a Motorola Surfboard Modem. I've looked at LimeWire and it seems to be listening on port 6346 and I think it is ports 25 and 110 that need to be kept clear.

Ok well I'm starting to run out of ideas. Possibly worth a look at are http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cg...num=1107559121 & also http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

Is your OSX firewall turned on? If yes, check it for for what it's blocking.

Are you able to use that emailing service whilst LW is closed? If yes then there seems to definitely be some link.

Sorry if I wasn't of any more help but perhaps someone else will see this thread & have some ideas.

Hi !

I've had a look at those posts you suggested But I'm afraid it'a all a bit too technical for my little brain to get around.

My firewall is off and I can use all my email programs when LimeWire is off but of course I can't send from my blueyonder account.

Thanks for the time you've taken to try and help me out.
