To convert the blank Limewire files into a Quicktime format, simply drag a file to the desktop and shorten the file name. The file must end in .mp3 in order to work as a music file. This same trick works for jpg or mpeg files which don't appear to have downloaded. Apparently, files which have too long a title drop the file designation off when they are transferred.. This has worked with every file format I've tried…

Opening downloaded files ...

Downloaded files to not show a file type designation (ie. mpeg, avi. etc.) Files in the shared folder reamin LimeWire docs and will not open either with "Launch" or from the Library.

The solution at least for OS 8.6 was to create an alias for the shared folder, remember the type of file downloaded, open the shared folder, shorten the file name, type for example ".mpeg" at the end of the file name.

In brief I had forgotten that a Mac OS only allows a max of 32 characters for file names.

Thus when the file is downloaded the OS automatically clips the original name and file type.

Default Problem with Downloads in Limewire file type

I have two downloads I'm keeping in a file waiting for a solution to the same problem others have shared here. It doesn't happen most of the time. The file types are (.sit). I drag the file to the Stuffit Expander icon and almost allways get files to expand. The ones that won't, Stuffit 6.5 gives me an error message that these file will not expand and that I should open them in Limeware.

If anyone comes up with a fix please post it.

Thanks - Larry

Unhappy ".sit" files not UnStuffing

I'm in the same boat - no matter what I try, some of my ".sit" files will not UnStuff. I've tried shortening the names. Changing the names. Changing the file and creator types. Making copies. Nothing seems to work.

I'm running MacOS 8.6, LimeWire 1.7c, StuffIt Expander 6.5.

Default Files won't convert

Shortening the name of the file and adding the file type (.mpg, .mpeg, .jpg, etc) to the end of the file name will work, but remember also that in the file name itself, do not use a space if more than one word, for example, show it as: myfunmovie.mpeg, not: my fun movie.mpeg
