Default .sit files not working

I also have the same problem with .sit files.

The renaming solution, however, does not work, as on a mac, the system doesn't care what the name of the file is as long as its under 32 characters. You don't need PC traditional xxxxx.xxx formats.

So, does anyone know what the answer is?

Unhappy

I am having the same problem but my files are .img and .dmg and stuffit won't open them automatically or manually. I tried using resedit and was told they have no resource fork and asked if I wanted to add one. I said yes and found ???? in the Type box and OG c in the Creator box. is there something I can put in those boxes so the files will open? Thank You

Default opening downloaded files

Anyone been able to get any response regarding how to open files that won't open with expander, changing their names, or their extensions? This is extremely frustrating.

Angry nice if this bug was documented

I went for days downloading over and over again, only to keep getting files that won't open. Silly me, I tossed all of them and kept downloading. Only on day 3 did I bother to check these forums. What a waste of time! Being such a common occurance, it would be nice if this was noted in the FAQ section instead of the drivil that's there.

I'm a 17-year mac veteran, consultant and advisor to firms like Adobe and Macromedia (and creative). I'm tired of these sorts of bugs. Macs aren't so few that we should be told "gee, we didn't think about macs" just so we can waste our time doing something so simple (like downloading) that it ought to work.

Smile Opening LimeWire Files on a MAC

I had the same, problem... drove me crazy... clicking wouldn't open the files. Some downloaded as .sit, .sea, .hqx in the file names but didn't show up with the Stuffit Exander icon.
I have Stuffit Deluxe 5.5 and it recognized and opened them all from within the program. Stuffit Expander didn't seem to work as well.

hmmm...I tried shortening the name of my newly downloaded movie files, and added the ending ".mpg", or ".mpeg" to them. Now they show up as quicktime icons, but "it is not a file quicktime understands." Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch everyone!

Question

okey, my problem is very similar to everyone elses.........

im using limewire17 and when i download mp3s theyre usually in quicktime format which is fine and dandy because i can still use them in itunes. but recently theyve been downloading as "general documents" with the .mp3 extension attached (and i swear i didnt chang any settings!!!). the only way i can use them is to convert them into itunes documents, which is getting really tedious. how do i get them to download as quicktime documents again??? i have no problem with movies, theyre still in quciktime format. its only with the mp3s. ive tryed changing the file name manually but they still stay as general documents. please help me!!!!

I havn't had any trouble with mp3s ...soooo...2 thoughts:
1) I am using Limewire 1.8

and 2) I use Macast 1.0 (which I am very happy with in and of itself)

When I download mp3s from limewire, they show up in the shared folder as limewire docs. However, when I select them and drag them into the macast playlist window, they are automatically turned to mp3 files as each song plays. Hope this helps
cheers,
G
