Question application that created file cannot be found

What the hell is the deal with that? I've downloaded limewire for mac 8.1 and higher or whatever, and it shows up on my desktop as limewire.mac.bin. And when I try to open it... it says that the application that created the file cannot be found. What do I do? I can't find any FAQs that address this problem. Is anyone even going to read this!?

This sounds like an installer issue. Look for an upcoming release of LW that will have an updated Mac installer.

bin is the file compression format that the LimeWire installer was compressed with. You need a program that can decompress bin files.

Default stuffit, etc

Oops. My bad. Aren't there supposed to be file associations to a a compression program you have installed? (don't all macs come equipped with Alladin's stuffit?) Any info would be appreciated.

I have Aladdin stuffix expander 6.0 that is supposed to unzip the files. It saves it to my desktop as Mac.wire.bin. But when I try to access that it won't open, telling me that the thing that created it could not be found.

Default Stuffit expander is free

Stuffit expander does not come with the MacOS. It does come with software like Explore or Netscape. Anyone can download the Expander for free from Alladin's web site.

Lightbulb @ emily

Please make sure you have the latest version of stuffit expander

Alladin's home page is here
http://www.alladinsys.com/

Or go directly to the free download here
http://www.stuffit.com/expander/download.html

Then try drag and drop to open file.
It worked for my Mac, I hope it solves your problem as well.
Good luck.
