LW won't install in OSX10.3.9 claims null

After having used Limewire for many, many months, I tried an upgrade and my OSX10.3.9's installation window stops right at "select destination." When I click on the MacIntosh HD, which has 119GB free, all I get is an exclamation mark and the warning that "You cannot install this software on this volume. (null) and the option is to Go Back, which of course brings you to the first page of the installer, which says "continue." A real catch-22.
This started yesterday, after my automatic software updater installed the latest updates from the Apple website. What am I doing wrong or what hath Apple done to me?

You get the "null" message in the Apple installer when a OS X thinks a more recent version is installed. Double-click the harddrive icon, open the Library, open the Receipts folder, then find the file: Install LimeWire.pkg, delete it and try again. Receipts folder sample image

Thanks for your reply.
Deleted the pkg file and opened the Limewire dmg file, double-clicked it and clicked on Install LimeWire. LimeWire was installed but when I double-click on icon I notice the lemon bouncing on the dock and then vanish. I did notice that it took just a few seconds to install the program, which was odd to me. I went through this routine several times and was always confronted with the vanishing bouncing lemon. I have LimeWire 4.9 Pro, so what I did was download 4.10.3 Basic and it installed properly -- although I have to confront that upgrade pop-up. But, hey, it's better than nothing.
Thanks again.

I hope you kept a copy of your 4.9 installer just in case.

The bouncing dock syndrome is generally a Java issue. However, you can repair permissions before just to check. Reboot whilst holding down the SHIFT key until you see a window saying Safe Booting. Then after it has started up, go to Utilties folder & open Disk Utility. Then Repair permissions. Then reboot normally & try LW again. Any difference? If not, reinstall Java using the "Offline" installer: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html

This one usually does the trick but there's another java security option if it doesn't. Java for osx often installs badly or the initial online version has bugs.

I would also recommend deleting your LW preferences after installing Java & before opening LW. LW prefs are found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire & delete the entire folder. Then try opening LW.

Belated thanks to your reply which will keep and try to repair Java.
