I've loaded Limewire twice and on both occasions upon launching i've been presented with the setup wizard. I get as far as the screen which asks me to select which folders i would like to allocate as share folders. After selecting a couple of them I click on next and that is as far as the program goes. It doesn't crash my mac but it just won't go any further. The only thing I can do is select cancel which obviously quits the program.

Any thoughts?

I've had this problem myself. Mine was caused by the fact that I wanted my shared folder at the top of my list and stared the name with a [space]. LW, be cross-platformed didn't the the naming convention. I added an exclamation mark (!) instead of the space and everything worked fine. I don't know if this will help, but you might want to check for spaces in your folder names.
