downloads still remain LW docs?- Any Clue? All of the prog files that I've downloaded (.sit files especially) remain LimeWire documents...Changing names doesn't work or using latest Expander, Disk copy, Launching from Library etc. ad nauseum. Thinking that files have been corrupted, have downloaded from different locations....Nada, nothing! Forum suggestions not helpful either. I'm starting to suspect that LW is adopting a Microsoft attitude toward Mac users...."Release Now & Fix Later"..... |

I agree. However, I don't have the problem you are having with every download. It seems to depend on the location I'm downloading from. Some show up as .sit and others start downloading as LW docs. As soon as I see the LW doc I kill and trash the file. |

img=disk copy For the last post What do I do with an image file? Open it with disk copy if you have a cd burner you could burn it but I suspect you don't. It is proably a copy of a cd most ofen but can be floppy also. Get disk copy from apple if you dont have it. It's free The other 2 posts say limewire docs. cant say Ive seen one a lot of the sit files dont apper to be real stuffit files, but stuffit6.5 opens them fine just the same. maybe you just need to upgade your software. |

Internet Control Panel If you've tried the standard fixes, go into your Internet Control Panel. Switch to the Advanced tab and click the "Helper Apps" icon. All you should have to do is make absolute sure that there is no file type that considers Limewire as it's helper app. Part of Limewire including a "Player" is that it makes it a "legitimate" helper app and can override your system prefs. I don't know how it happens, but Limewire will sometimes decide it's your new .sit opener or your new .mp3 player. g/l |

Limewire document fix A brilliant guy named bink has posted this solution. I've tried it and it works great! Go to the following link and download the free trial of MP3 Rage. It works on more than just MP3s! http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/3847 Start up MP3 Rage. Choose a file of the same type as you want to correct (like .sit for a StuffIt document). Drop it onto the top button on the Rage console (which says "Display and Edit MP3 File Tags"). In the upper right-hand corner of the next window, you'll see the file name, then two windows labeled Type and Creator. Write down the correct Type and Creator. Close the dialog box. Drag the Limewire document onto the top button of the Rage console ("Display and Edit"). Change the Type and Creator boxes. (For StuffIt, Type is SIT5 and Creator is SIT!). Yes, use the exclamation point. Click "Update". The dialog box says there are no tags in the file. Click the option "Delete Tags." Voila! The file is fixed and will open with StuffIf like normal. You can also use MP3 Rage to convert MP3s to AIFF for burning CDs! |
