blank window on first run (after install)
 

I'm using an Intel iMac w/ 1GB RAM. I just installed Limewire 4.12. When the "Limewire Setup Dialog" window comes up (immediately after the splash screen), the window is entirely blank except for the word "Cancel" in the lower right-hand corner. I can click on Cancel and Limewire quits. There are no other options available from the menu (only the Limewire menu is showing).

I've installed, deleted, and re-installed and re-deleted twice, and deleted all Limewire preferences, but the same thing happens each time. I ran repair disk permissions all three times. I've verified the hard disk.

What else can I do? Have I missed something? Has anyone seen this problem before? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I got the same problem. I've had lw for a long time but I was cleaning stuff up and decided to delete it. Then later I went to reinstall LW and got the same thing. After the splash screen it goes to LW setup dialog and its all gray except the X on the upper right corner. I am running win xp.

I kept searching and found other ideas. What I did was set my nvidia to regular settings and I also got java 1.4.2 and works fine now. Thank goodness for this forum and all the helpful people in here.

Thanks very much to FOTH and LOTR for their suggestions! Unfortunately, it seems that the problems (and solutions) to somewhat similar problems on Windows machines are not applicable to my Mac's problem.

Let me add to my original post that I had been running LW with no problems for several months before this blank screen problem occurred.

Since my last posting I have re-installed the Mac OSX operating system, hoping that maybe that would solve the problem, but alas it didn't.

Any additional suggestions are eagerly anticipated!

I presume you're running Tiger right? And are you using Java 1.5 or 1.4.2? You can control which version LW uses via the Java prefs utility found in the Utilities folder. Which graphic card are you using?

If you've been using LW for a long time & this suddenly starts to happen, then consider doing these things:

1. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

2. Whilst LW is closed, delete the LW prefs folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
(but next time you open LW it will ask you all your options again so make a note of any important settings. ;))

Same problem here, on a 2 months old iMac C2D, except that I never installed LW on it before. It works on my mother's Mac Mini, though. Same install, very similar computer...

I get a blank window before even being able to configure anything. I can only see "Cancel" at the bottom right corner.

Trying the beta 4.13 right now. It suggested nothing but an upgrade, whereas I just deleted Limewire. It hung and I had to forcequit it. Bummer.

Re-launched the 4.13 install, it worked. Launched Limewire and I get the same blank window with only "Cancel" in the corner.

1. Double check this Setting up Java 1.5
2. If still problems, download the Java 1.5 again from apple getting the "Offline" standalone java installer.
3. Delete the LW prefs folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
4. Check your graphic settings.
5. Make sure you have plenty of ram. 500+ MB is best.
6. Do these maintenance routines: SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions
7. Try step 8 here Can't launch LW: Bouncing in Dock (click on link)

I have the latest Java runtime (it won't update)
There are no LW preferences to be deleted (I already deleted them, I guess that's why I can't find any Limewire folder under the preferences in the Library)
Graphic settings?
Plenty of RAM, I have 1GB, and 600 free right now.
I repaired the permissions, I even booted from the CD and repaired my system disk.

I had removed Limewire completely. However, upon lauching the 4.12 install, it told me that a newer version was installed. I had trashed Limewire and everything called Lime*.*, and emptied the trash.
I don't remember what I did, but next thing I know is that the 4.12 install wouldn't run anymore at some point (quickly appearing then fading out of the dock). So I installed the 4.13 which worked as always... and failed just like 4.12:

And.... drum roll..... Azureus works perfectly, as it has always been for 2 months.

Looks like I'll have to turn my mom into a pirate :-)
