Default Installing/Opening Downloaded Apps

I ought to preface this by saying that I'm a brand-new Mac user, so some basic Mac concepts may be lost on me. That said, I'm experienced with Limewire on a PC; used it for several years.

I've downloaded some apps over limewire (********), and "unarchived them", without really knowing what to do after that. When I clicked Setup.exe it asks me to choose a program in which to open it in (???). What am I missing here?

Um ... you're trying to install windows programs on the mac operating system. Um ... can't be done!!! You need mac specific programs!

Hmm. Thank you. I had an inkling that I was just that Mac-ignorant (I was assuming that Limewire for Mac is a seperate program that only searches Mac programs). And apparently I am. This transition will apparently be harder then I thought.

dmg, sit & the odd zip file that specifies mac is often ok. But be wary of the latter. If you search ... try putting - dmg at the end of the search title.
