Default Sames crashes as other Mac users

I have a G3 Powerbook with plenty of ram and a high speed connection. It crashes usually within 2-5 minutes of launch and freezes up the whole machine. What can I do?

Apparently -- cry. Then ... cry more. Since it doesn't appear that anything is being done to resolve this problem at all.

The new beta version may work better for you. It's available at:

I really hate to say this after all the work you do, but no -- 1.9 beta does not solve the problem. It still freezes randomly, mostly at startup, forcing a reboot.

LimeWire does require a pretty powerful machine to run well, particularly on the Mac. You need at least 50 or so MB of RAM, for example. Unfortunately, there is really nothing we can do about this (this is required by the version of Java on Mac Classic). What are the specifications of your machine?

Thanks.

G4 with 128 Mb hard ram and a bunch of virtual ram on the side... Can't really see how that would be the issue... I sure hope we'll find out what the problem is, though, I miss my time stalking for the right files

I am very surprised that you would experience problems with a G4 with that much RAM. The system periodically freezes on you? Does it happen past startup? There is a reason it could freeze for awhile right at the beginning (namely that dns lookups as it's trying to resolve the router.limewire.com address can freeze the Mac if they take a little while -- ignore this if it means nothing to you), but freezes once you're connected to the network are very strange. Do you ever get freezes, for example, after being connected for 5 minutes or so.

Also, if you have a chance it would be great if you could take a look at the Connections tab as soon as possible on startup to see if the freezes seem to be related to who it's connecting to. You could see it freeze, for example, when it's connecting to router.limewire.com or connect1.gnutellanet.com, and then unfreeze right when these disappear.

Thanks.

Exclamation limewire totally screwed up my system

limewire crashed all the time (eg if I click outside the limewire window) and it has even corrupted my system ... wasn't even able to boot anymore, so it has cost me a lot of money

I am very sorry to hear that LimeWire caused so much damage. The problem with clicking outside of the window is fixed in 1.9 beta. Which Mac OS were you using when you encountered this problem, by the way?

Well, can't say not being able to run Limewire cost me any money, it's just a darn shame since none of the other gnutella clients out there reach its knees.

The crashes seem to occur pretty randomly -- it usually loads up fine, connects to the networks, and then wham. Sometimes I can run searches and download for up to 30 minutes or even an hour before it goes down.

When it does go down, it's usually one of two things that happen. Either the entire computer freezes and the marquee turns into a little odd thing that at best looks like 4-6 tiny lines of written text, or Limewire freezes but you can still move the mouse -- but in order to quit or do anything you still have to reboot the computer.

It's not at all unlikely that the problem is in truth connected with some of the networks out there -- we all know how fickle Java can be -- question is, whether we can determine the culprit's identity so you folks can fix it. I'll see what I can do in that department at least.
