Default crashfest

I installed Limewire 2.0.2 beta and still get the same type 2 crash when I click anywhere in the menubar. I tried increasing the ram with no change. While I can click in the finder without the crash, I can't keep a window open on the desktop for every open program I use. And as with previous versions, the program also does not retain the options I set. I am running OS 9.2.2 on an iMac DV 500 with 768 megs of ram and virtual memory on. I would gladly pay the small fee for the new version if the program didn't routinely crash when I try to put it in the background. The err.txt file is blank.

???

Question

I also have a G4 with 512 mgs ram and I DID pay for the updated program and it still crashes when I click on the menu bar. I just try to make sure I am not doing anything else when I am searching and downloading.

Did I mention that I had to restore my system software after I installed limewire? I felt this was interesting (no mac guru here) as I never had trouble before.

Limewire worked fine for a while then, after installing Norton Antiviurs, I had similar problems with it crashing/freezing as have been described. I put all of the Limewire files in the trash and downloaded it again. (unfortunately I also threw away all of my shared folder--stupid). Anyway, I still had the crashing problems. I then tried deactivating Antivirus and the crashing problem stopped. Does this make any sense? If so, what do I do about virus protection?

Default crashes

I, too, have the crashes whenever I click outside the Gnutella window on my new white iBook: 9.1, 384MB RAM. I'm using version 1.8b. In my case, the crashes happen with a window which refers to "Error of type 2 made Limewire unexpectedly quit..." and, as w/an above complainer, when I click the finder.

I found this "solution" at one FAQ site for Limewire:

"Disable the context sensitive menu extension from the Help menu."

Well, there IS no "context sensitive menu extension" in the Help menu.

Is there any reason to think that downloading version 2.0 will help this problem?

You can disable the Contextual Menus extension in the Extension Manager or Conflict Catcher control panel, whichever you use, but you'll be giving up a very useful tool to overcome a bug in the Limewire program.

Wink have the problems with running limewire in power mac g4's etc been resolved?

just wondering if the bugs happening with limewire running on g4's etc have been resolved.

i just got an adsl connection for the first time and finding limewire was a great thing for about the first 10 hours or so of use, when i started to have freezing and crashing problems like those described above.

it doesn't sound like any of the solutions proposed above are workable.

any other suggestions?

You didn't say what operating system you are running on your machine, but you might want to loosen up with a little cash and buy the pro version. I am running OS9 and it is running flawlessly on my machine (G4). It is well worth the pittance Lime Wire is charging.

The LimeWire 2.4.x versions do fix several potential conflicts that we found with the Mac 9.x and below version -- issues that we were previously unaware of. So the newest version should be more stable.
